Sweet Saturday Sample. "You Sure Can Pick 'Em."

Welcome to Sweet Saturday Sample. In this excerpt my heroine tries to get a moment's privacy with her fiance who dumped her for her sister.

Blurb:

Is it possible she’s finally found Her Kind of Man?

Ross Williams has been in love with Kara Cochrane since they were kids so when Kara's fiancĂ© Brandon Miles cheats on her and calls off their wedding—Ross steps in to rescue the damsel in distress.

A heartbroken Kara just wants to get on with her life and hunky Ross provides her with a definite distraction—that is until she starts falling for him. Big time.
But a devastating family secret threatens to destroy everything that Kara holds dear—including her relationship with Ross.

Excerpt:  In this excerpt my heroine tries to get a moment's privacy with her ex fiance who dropped her for her sister.

“Can’t you see she’s trying to get rid of you?” Brandon taunted.

Ross froze. “This is none of your business. Butt out.”

Brandon jumped up so fast the porch swing rocked and almost hit a pot of Martha’s prized mums. He stomped across the porch but stopped as if he’d run into a wall when he reached Ross who had stepped forward to meet him.

Disgust marred Brandon’s face. Why was he looking at her as if she were some new species of loathsome insect.
“I guess you don’t need me to watch out for you,” he sneered. “If you planned on getting up close and personal with him, you shouldn’t have worn so much perfume. Your scent’s all over him. What did you give him in exchange for a fancy dinner?”
Ross hit him. Brandon’s head snapped back as he fell against the porch railing. He lost his balance and sprawled onto the floor.
“Watch your tongue, Miles.”
Brandon wiped a dribble of blood from his mouth on his shirt sleeve. “He’s a real winner, Kara. You sure can pick ’em.”
“Obviously,” Ross retorted. “She picked you, didn’t she?”
Kara dropped her hands which she‘d flung against her face during the altercation. “Ross, leave him alone,” she cried. She ran over and knelt beside Brandon who didn’t appreciate her attention one bit.
“Leave me alone, Kara. It’s over between us, but if you want my advice, tell this jerk to take a hike.” He jumped up and vanished into the house, leaving Kara to deal with Ross.

  4. Thank you, sherry and Lisa. Actually, the bull will come from Kara. Ross is really too patient with her.

  5. Great scene with plenty of action. Somebody needed to smack Brandon in the mouth, and I'm glad Ross did it, but I do wish Kara hadn't run to his side. The poor girl must still have feelings for him.

  7. Oh, she does, Sandy. She's only going out with Ross because Brandon dumped her.

Laurel, thank you so much. I'm trying to write all the emotion I can into my work.
