Like Highland Romance?

Like highland romances? If so, you'll enjoy this interview, and afterwards, maybe you should check BJ Scott's book out.

1.How long did you write before you got published?

Being a true Gemini, I was born with the gift of gab and need to tell a story.  I have loved to read and have jotted down stories since I was a young child, but my journey towards publication started ten years ago. I took a creative writing class at college and was told by my teacher I should consider writing for Harlequin. I worked on several manuscripts but life took a turn when I met my husband and my writing was put on hold for a while. Three years ago I picked up my pen and started to write again.  I finished Highland Legacy, the first book in my series in the fall of 2010. I submitted it to several agents and publishers and got some very good feedback and suggestions. A couple of agents asked to see more of my work. I am not a speed writer, work full time and have a small business on the side, so it took a while for me to get the book revamped.   In the spring of 2011 I sent it out again and was offered a contract by a couple of e-book publishers. I signed with Soul Mate Publishing in July of 2011 and my book was published in Nov 2011. The sequel was requested and picked up a few months later, based on three chapters so it took a while to finish and polish the book. It released on Dec 18th, 2012.

2.What’s the hardest part of writing for you? The easiest?

Coming up with story ideas comes easily, finding time to write is the hardest part.

3.What is your favorite genre? Why?

Historical romance is my ultimate favorite. I love anything to do with history, especially if it takes place in medieval Scotland, during the American Civil war or involves Native American history. I have always been a history buff and worked in the museum field for eight summers as a costumed interpreter. I love doing historical research, which is an essential part of a historical romance.

4.What are you working on now?

I am currently working on book three of the series. Highland Homecoming is the story of Alasdair Fraser, the oldest of the three brothers and least likely to fall in love or take a bride. However, when he finds an unconscious woman on the beach and has no choice but to care for her, his convictions are put to a test.

I also have another Scottish historical that is not related to the series and a time travel/paranormal/historical that involves a civil war soldier and his lost love.

5.What advice would you give aspiring writers?

Write and write often. Write what you love because it shows. Never give up your dream and while negative comments and rejections are bound to happen to every writer, use them to your advantage to hone your craft and learn from your mistakes.

BLURB:

No longer content in the shadows of his older brothers and on a quest to find his destiny, Bryce Fraser's chosen path is fraught with danger, passion, and decisions. Can his unspoken love for spirited, beguiling Fallon be triumphant in a time of war and uncertainty, or will they both fall prey to the devious plans of a traitorous laird from a rival clan?

EXCERPT:

Loch Ryan Scotland, 1307

“Wa . . . water,” Bryce mumbled, but there was no one there to listen.

His throat was parched and he ran his tongue over dry, cracked lips, but his action offered no relief. An entire loch lay only a few feet away, but he couldn’t muster the strength to drag himself to the bank and quench his thirst.

 “Cold . . . so cold.”

Despite the sun beating down on him, he’d swear he was encased in ice. His life’s blood seeped from his wounds, soaking the ground beneath him. He tried to raise his head, but the excruciating pain radiating across his chest stole his breath away.

Was this what it felt like to die? If so, he prayed the Almighty would be merciful and take him now.

Bryce moaned, a shift in his position bringing on another nauseating wave of agony. He sucked in a short, sharp, gulp of air and stretched his arm out as far as he could, his fingers grappling in the dirt.

If only I could reach my sword.

Beads of perspiration dampened his brow. As the strength slowly drained from his body, drawing a simple breath became more difficult. The end grew near. No time to make amends for sins of the past, and he had committed his share.

Regrets? He had those, too. “Fallon.” He whispered her name then heaved a ragged sigh.

 AUTHOR Bio and Links:

With a passion for historical romance, history in general, and anything Celtic, B.J. always has an exciting work in progress. Each story offers a blend of romance, adventure, suspense, and, where appropriate, a dab of comic relief. Carefully researched historical facts are woven into each manuscript, providing a backdrop from which steamy romance, gripping plots, and vivid characters—dashing alpha heroes and resourceful, beguiling heroines you can’t help but admire—spring to life. A member of RWA, World Romance Writers, Celtic Hearts Romance Writers, and Savvy Authors, B.J. also writes contemporary, paranormal, time travel, and romantic suspense.

C.S. Lewis first captivated B. J.’s imagination in the fourth grade, and her desire to write sprang from there. Following a career in nursing and child and youth work, B.J. married her knight-in-shining-armor, and he whisked her away to his castle by the sea. In reality, they share their century-old home in a small Canadian town on the shore of Lake Erie with three dogs and a cat. When she is not working at her childcare job, on her small business, or writing, you will find her reading, camping, or antique hunting.

  7. Thanks for dropping in today Mary.I have to agree about Scottish Historicals. Before I started writing my own, they were always my favorites. A man in a kilt always gets my blood pumping. Must be my Scottish ancestry ;)

This is the second book in my series. Highland Legacy was released in Nov 2011 and Highland Homecoming is due out this summer.
While all three are part of a series, each brother has his own story so they can be read on their own as well ;)
