Weekend Writing Warriors: Prisons and Guards

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors. My excerpt today is from my latest release The Enchanted.  The book is available at most all online retail outlets, and will soon be in print.  My sample today picks up where last week ended. My hero Prince Alan was sent to prison by his father because he refused to marry the lady his father picked for him.  The keeper of the prison just struck Alan and cut his face.  When you're finished here, go to http://www.wewriwa.com for more lovely sentences from participating authors.

Blurb:

Forced by his father into a marriage he didn’t want, Prince Alan soon finds that his bride isn’t the sweet, submissive creature he expected.  Morgane has the heart of a dragon and beauty beyond compare, but she isn’t thrilled about the marriage either.  When black treachery threatens the kingdom, Morgane and Alan embark on a perilous journey that has an excellent chance of ending in failure and death for them and all of their people.

Excerpt: The keeper is speaking.

"Your brother is dead, Prince Alan, and

you are King Bowdyn's heir. As such, certain behaviors are

required of you. It is my job to see to it that you learn them."

He gestured to a hulking guard in a stained leather jerkin

who waited near the door. "Put Prince Alan in building seven. With

his fair complexion, we will start him off working underground so

that the desert sun will not blister him."

The prince gasped as the guard grabbed his arm and jerked

him around.

I'm sure Alan's not used to people manhandling him! He's putting up with a lot, and more to come. Definitely interested to see how he comes out of this :-)

ooh working underground, that sounds ominous! I feel so bad for the prince!

That doesn't seem like a very nice way to treat an heir! Great snippet!

Can't believe his father imprisoned him for balking...nice snippet and you really gave us a feel for Prince Alan's situation. Good description.

Hmm. That title's not really paying off for him, is it? Great 8!

Poor Prince, but I have a feeling he'll come out of this ordeal better prepared to be King someday. Excellent excerpt!

Well, underground's better than being burned to a crisp.

Nice of them to worry about his skin! Interesting training regime. . .

Something tells me working underground won't be an improvement from the blisters. Yikes, poor guy.

Elaine
Nice snippet. Lots of shocks for the Prince and if he survives (which I suspect they have been given orders that he must survive)--he will definitely be a stronger person. Good job.

Oh...Prince Alan really went through the dregs to make his father happy. Coming to print, soon? Woohoo! Elaine, will you be able to autograph a couple of them for me? I'd like to buy them for great nieces for Christmas gifts. :-)
