Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors

Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors, your chance to sample the work of a talented group of authors. For the past few weeks I've been sharing excerpts from Return Engagement. So far, my hero and heroine have met on the beach ten years after his father broke them up. The thing is, she's engaged, and he keeps questioning her about the man. Last week she accused him of being too possessive. This is his reply.

“Like I used to be, you mean? I’ve gotten much worse since then. Maybe it’s my FBI training kicking in, but I’d insist you check in with me, and I’d check in with you too. I wouldn’t be able to sleep until I knew you were all right.” He paused a moment. “Anyway, if you really love someone how could you not try to take care of her? Or him. Isn’t that what you do for the ones you love?”

  2. Sure sounds like he is talking about what HE wants to do more than questioning what her bf does.

  3. He's bluntly getting it out there. No use hiding it and pretending to be some other way. Good 8, Elaine!

My husband and I check in with each other. It does stave off worries. :-)

  4. He's got some point, maybe. Or maybe he is just trying to find flaws in her relationship, not good.

  5. YOu do care for people, up to a point.

    Checking in is great--stalking isn't

I'm pretty sure he's the former, though. :)

  6. Yes, you do that, but he sounds a bit obsessive. Maybe it is the FBI training. But it sure gives me insight into his character. Great 8.

  7. Great snippet, does seem a bit obsessive but maybe that is because of all the bad things he's seen with him being in the FBI?

  11. I'm with the other folks in wondering about this guy's over-possessiveness. Makes me wonder about his motivation for becoming an FBI agent. I'm surprised he isn't in the NSA.

  12. This makes me wonder what has happened to him in the past to feel so strongly. Great snippet. :)

  14. He's certainly laying it on thick... At least there's no hidden agenda with this guy. Nice work.

  16. Ouf! That would be a little bit too much for me. Taking care of loved ones, sure. Checking in all the time, no thanks. I wonder how she'll react.
