Last week we learned that Kurt's date Aleisha got strep throat, and couldn't go out with him. This is directly after he speaks to her.

What a shame. He’d looked forward to the party, but going without a date probably wouldn’t be as much fun. As he sipped his coffee, he had an idea. Why not ask Susan to go with him? Aleisha and I aren’t engaged or anything, and if Susan went with me I could ask her about that play.

No, I can’t do that. It might make Aleisha mad even though I know she went out with Brent Stephens a couple of weeks ago. Brent made a big point of telling me when I saw him at the football jamboree.

Blurb:
Susan English can’t stand Robin Lanford! She’s so full of herself she irritates everyone on the faculty of Fairfield High. When Robin bets Susan fifty dollars that she can’t get a date with Kurt Deveraux, the head football coach, Susan jumps at the chance to put the little heifer in her place. She had no idea that teaching Robin a lesson would irrevocably change her life, strain treasured friendships, and throw two families into chaos.

  1. Decisions, decisions ... LOL ... I hope he'll ask Susan. He's not in a relationship, so why not.

  2. I don't know, if I was him, I'd ask Susan just as spite to Aleisha for asking the other guy. Then again, I'm not always very nice. I say go for it, man! To hell with what the girl you aren't even really dating says. Her loss.

  3. So if he asks her out he'll win the bet and the book's over, right? Right?

  5. I'm impressed he's so blase about her date with Brett. All's fair, and all that. :) Great snippet, Elaine.

  6. Aren't they grown-ups? So enough already. Just ask her out and stop acting like a child. I'm mad!

  7. Mildly amusing to listen in on these adults thinking like the high school kids they teach. Enjoyed the snippet!

  8. Love how the strangest of reasoning ends up sounding so ... Reasonable. He has to. No, really!

  10. He can always tell Aleisha that she's just a co-worker...

  11. I'm guessing he does ask Susan, but I may or may not have read the whole sample. When you catch up to it, I guess I'll have to buy the book. :-)

  12. Seeing all of this through a male point of view is interesting. I don't think he should at all feel guilty or tied down if the other girl is seeing other people.

  14. I'm with Charmaine and Veronica, these people are sounding more like the students than the faculty, ask her out.

  15. I'm guessing we're too early in the story for her to win the bet, so he won't ask her out. But he ought to have a grown-up discussion about exclusivity, since it sounds like she's dating around...

  16. It looks like he is having a hard time to choose. Now I wonder how much into Aleisha he is for considering Susan so readily.
