We know that Susan won her bet when Kurt asked her to go with him to a party. Today they have just arrived at the party where Kurt is joking around with their host and leads him to believe that he and Susan are involved. Now Susan takes Kurt to task.

Excerpt:

“I don’t like what you said. I’m sure he thought we were lovers.”

Kurt shrugged. “I hope so. If they think you’re my woman, the single guys won’t be hitting on you.” His eyes twinkled. “I want you all to myself tonight with no competition.”

Susan thought for a moment. Naturally, she was flattered that he didn’t want to share her company with anyone else, but he shouldn’t have let Mr. Mendoza believe they were involved with one another. Oh, it probably doesn’t make any difference anyway; I doubt I’ll ever see any of the Mendozas after the party ends.

Blurb:
Susan English can’t stand Robin Lanford! She’s so full of herself she irritates everyone on the faculty of Fairfield High. When Robin bets Susan fifty dollars that she can’t get a date with Kurt Deveraux, the head football coach, Susan jumps at the chance to put the little heifer in her place. She had no idea that teaching Robin a lesson would irrevocably change her life, strain treasured friendships, and throw two families into chaos.

  1. Her response is nicely ambiguous, indicating that he has a way to go to win her over and setting up possible conflicts down the road.

  3. Well I take it that we've just sampled a bit of foreshadowing here - could get very interesting.

  7. So of course the Mendozas will be everywhere, I'm guessing. I'd be irritated with the guy for giving the wrong impression. But certainly another interesting development in this story!

  8. Why do I get the feeling the Mendozas are about to become a big part of her life? :-) In her place, I'd be both flattered and annoyed.

  13. Why do I get the feeling her doubt is going to bite her in the ass later and she certainly will see them? I didn't think she was going to like that comment of his though, should be interesting how it ties in to the later story.
