Last week we saw that after the wrestling match started, Cade hit Rocky with a chair, and Rocky didn't get up. We also saw that in the ambulance he asked if it was safe to sit up, and at that point Aimee slapped him. The driver just told Aimee there was no call to hit him because it wasn't his fault.

Excerpt: Aimee is speaking first to the driver.

“Watch the road! I’d like to know whose fault it is,” Aimee said with her best sneer, the one she’d copied from her cousin Ruby. “Who went where he wasn’t supposed to and found out that Brady Porter, one of the best known promoters in LAWA, was running a drug ring?”

Rocky shrugged as if it didn’t matter. “I only wanted some towels.”

“You got a lot more than towels, didn’t you?” Aimee took deep breaths to calm herself and blew out hard. What was wrong with everyone? Didn’t they know what a precarious situation Rocky had landed them in?

Blurb:

Aimee Sherwood never dreamed that following her fiancĂ© into the witness protection pro-gram would land her in a haunted house in a town that’s downright creepy. She’d have laughed if she had been told the guy who lives down the road might be her soul mate, not the man whose ring she’s wearing. Life in West Virginia is nothing like life in Los Angeles, but between bean ball battles with Marilyn Monroe, remodeling a crumbling farmhouse, and starting a new online business, life in the country is anything but boring.

  1. Loads of action and emotion in this scene, Elaine, and you've written them well. Aimee is in a bad place. :-)

  2. Wrong place, wrong moment. And so much to lose for the 'wrong' man!

    Excellent dynamics, Elaine.

  5. Big trouble and she's the only one aware! What a woman. Love your characters, Elaine.

  6. Mind your own business, driver! :-) A really intense scene, and Rocky is maddeningly blase about it.

  7. Life in the country definitely isn't boring for Aimee. Who knew there was so much going on in West Virginia. Great snippet.

  8. Well, towels aren't a totally unreasonable thing to want. But I'd blame him for this mess, too, if I were her!

  9. I'm really enjoying this story, so different than the last one you shared (which I also thought was great). Terrific snippet - I like your heroine's attitude and I could feel her stress vibrating through the words.

  10. Her whole life has been turned upside down, it's no wonder she's lashing out. Good snippet, gives us a lot of insight into the character.

  11. I'm on her side. At least when things go wrong she'll be able to say, "I told you so!"

  12. Maybe answering with the towels line wasn't the smartest idea of his, I don't see this as something to be joking about. I think I'd do a lot more than just slap him.

  13. He could be in so much trouble--like exposure--and he's too casual. She ought to smack him again. Hard.
