One of the things that always fascinates me is where authors get their ideas. Where did you get the idea for Against the Wind?

 

I was listening to a Ricky Martin song, “Nobody Wants to Be Lonely,” and the scene of Kit in the bordello came to me: a young woman whose life has been shattered standing before a window, bathed in moonlight, staring out into the night, a “broken arrow.” She hears a voice behind her, a man in the shadows, saying “Come to me.” And from that I wrote the novel. Cool trailer!  When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

 

Although I wrote stories as a child, and I’ve published non-fiction articles for years, it never occurred to me to write historical romance until I fell in love with the genre in 2010. Then my best friend, who was listening to me talk about how I would change a story I was reading, encouraged me to write one. 

 

How long did you write before you got published?

 

About a year and a half I think. I started writing Racing With The Wind, my first Regency and book 1 in the Agents of the Crown trilogy, toward the end of 2010. It was published in July 2012. It was a fast track thanks to Boroughs Publishing Group that offered me just the right fit.

 

What is your favorite scene from Against the Wind?

 

Probably the love scene at Willow House, the very elegant bordello that Martin goes to for his one night of pleasure before taking up his next assignment as a spy for the Crown. It’s what inspired the book, too. There are many action scenes, including a highwaymen’s attack, a shooting on the streets of Paris and an attempted rape, but I still am very fond of the first night Kit meets Martin.

 

What are you working on now?

 

I’m writing Wind Raven now, the 3^rd in the Agents of the Crown trilogy. The hero is Captain Nick Powell. You’ll meet him in Against the Wind. A privateer during the War of 1812, he is now in 1817 a merchant sea captain in his family’s business. A rake and an emotionally wounded man, he loves all women and yet he loves none—that is until he meets an impudent American named Tara McConnell. She doesn’t fall into any category he has for women and that intrigues (and frustrates) him. It’s research intensive since I have to learn all the nautical terminology and understand life on a schooner during the period. And I’ve a very worthy pirate to understand, too, in Roberto Cofresi. It’s so important to get all that “right,” elsewise some clever reader will point out that I got it all wrong! I hope it will be out late 2013.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

 

As a child Regan Walker loved to write stories, particularly about adventure-loving girls, but by the time she got to college more serious pursuits took priority. One of her professors thought her suited to the profession of law, and Regan realized it would be better to be a hammer than a nail. Years of serving clients in private practice and several stints in high levels of government gave her a love of international travel and a feel for the demands of the “Crown” on its subjects. Hence her romance novels often involve a demanding Prince Regent who thinks of his subjects as his private talent pool.

 

Regan lives in San Diego with her golden retriever, Link, whom she says inspires her every day to relax and smell the roses.
