Sweet Saturday Sample: A Prince's Kindness

Welcome to Sweet Saturday Sample.  Today's excerpt comes from my latest release The Enchanted.  This excerpt takes place right after their wedding reception ends and picks up where we left off last Saturday.  After you finish here, go to http://www.sweetsatsample.wordpress.com to read other authors' work.  First a blurb, then an excerpt.

Blurb:

Forced by his father into a marriage he didn’t want, Prince Alan soon finds that his bride isn’t the sweet, submissive creature he expected.  Morgane has the heart of a dragon and beauty beyond compare, but she isn’t thrilled about the marriage either.  When black treachery threatens the kingdom, Morgane and Alan embark on a perilous journey that has an excellent chance of ending in failure and death for them and all of their people.
Excerpt:

Someone tapped on the door and entered at Alan's

command. A small, wizened woman made her way across the

room, followed by a young man who carried a black leather case. ʺI

am Nola," she said to Morgane. "Prince Alan has asked me to look

at your feet."

"Thank you, but my maid can do it.ʺ

"No, I want Nola to look at them," Alan insisted. "She has a

rare talent for healing."

A flash of anger tore across Morgane's face, but she nodded

her head in agreement.

  1. I wonder why she's so reluctant to have someone else look at her feet?

  2. I read an article recently about how writers shouldn't use phrases like "anger tore" because anger isn't a character and can't tear anything. As I read the entire article, all I could think was HOGWASH! A good writer brings emotions, scenery and experiences to life, and that's exactly what you've done here. Very well done - great excerpt!

  3. Thank you Heather. That's so nice to hear. Patricia, she doesn't want anything to do with Prince Alan.

  5. Is he trying to be kind, or is he simply wanting to control her in every way? I am definitely intrigued.

Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

  6. Elaine, you have got to give us larger excerpts. Just when you get my interest developed, the scene is over!

    Good work!

Um, I hate Captcha. Third time. Hope it's a charm!
