Weekend Writing Warriors: A Father's Love

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors. Today's excerpt picks up where I left off last Sunday. If you recall, the king has come to collect Prince Alan who has been in prison for a year because he would not marry the lady of his father's choosing. The king has just discovered that the keeper whipped Prince Alan and scarred his back. I'm on a virtual book tour with The Enchanted, and I'm giving away a $100 gift certificate. You call get my schedule at http://www.pumpupyourbook.com/2013/07/04/virtual-book-tour-pump-up-your-book-presents-the-enchanted-virtual-book-publicity-tour/

blurb:

Forced by his father into a marriage he didn’t want, Prince Alan soon finds that his bride isn’t the sweet, submissive creature he expected.  Morgane has the heart of a dragon and beauty beyond compare, but she isn’t thrilled about the marriage either.  When black treachery threatens the kingdom, Morgane and Alan embark on a perilous journey that has an excellent chance of ending in failure and death for them and all of their people.
excerpt:

Bowdyn picked up his wine cup and drained it. "I am glad

for the scars. Every time he looks at his back in the mirror he will be

reminded of his duty. Did he make friends here?"

"Yes, sir." A pained look crossed the keeperʹs thin, sallow

face. ʺHe and another prisoner called Adair were friendly to each

other. Naturally, I transferred Adair once I learned of this situation."

  1. Geez, this is not a light-n-sweet story is it! I really like how real your characters seem. Bowdyn's an interesting guy, despite or maybe because of what appears to be a mean streak. Great excerpt here.

  6. Man this story is great. I'm wincing just thinking about the scars and heartbroken knowing that the prince lost his only friend simply because they were friends, so powerful and devastating. well done!

  9. I'm mesmerized by the title at the top of the page, "A Father's Love," because this king is displaying the opposite of parental affection. To read that his only friend was transferred away is despicable treatment... more and more, I'm cheering for Alan, for I know there's going to be a great comeback (hopefully) for him! Great snippet - thanks!
