Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing warriors

Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors, your chance to sample excerpts from a group of wonderful authors. My excerpt today comes from my latest release Rest Thy Head. In this excerpt, my hero makes a wrong assumption that will cause him a lot of jealousy and heartache. Patrick is his brother.

Jake stepped under the stinging cold shower and gasped as
the water made contact with his overheated body. Didn’t she know
what that kiss did to him? Didn’t she know he had a hard time not
kissing her back? He’d give almost anything to have held her in his
arms. Right now it was all he could do to keep from tearing up to
the third floor and showing her how much he liked that kiss.
But Patrick had seen her first. No matter how much he
wanted her to be his, it didn’t matter.

blurb:
Running away from a fiancĂ© who betrayed her, Peyton O’Malley finds employment at a beautiful mountain inn called Rest Thy Head. She didn’t expect to live in the haunted room or to fall for the inn’s owner, a fire-scarred, war veteran who uses the inn to hide away from the world. She didn’t expect her sister to show up at Rest Thy Head either, much less her formidable mother.

Now, thanks to the aid of a friendly ghost, Peyton has a shot at true love, and so does her sister Ashley, provided the guys cooperate of course!

  2. oh oh two guys involved. I think she needs to choose which one she wants and Jake shouldn't really have a say in it. Who cares who came first?

  4. If he's loyal to a friend, then he'll be loyal to her if he can ever work through the situation to claim her. Nice.

  5. If it weren't for honorable wrong assumptions, romance novels would be a lot shorter. :D

Now,what is it with cold showers? Just finished reading an Ian Fleming novel in which James Bond took several cold showers, but he was in Jamaica.
I've had luke warm showers, but never a COLD shower. Sounds like torture! LOL

  11. Very interesting snippet. A haunted room and a friendly ghost? I don't know if I'd stay there long enough to find out if he was friendly or not, but I love it! Great work!

  14. You did that perfectly! Isn't that just the way we think? Our mind goes through all these things that happen and try to figure it out, and its usually wrong. Nice writing Elaine!
