Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday, your chance to sample the work of a talented group of authors. When you finish here, find more samples at http://www.wewriwa.com and https://www.facebook.com/groups/SnippetSunday/.

I'm going to post my snippet, and then I have a favor to ask of you. My son challenged me to a wreath making competition this Christmas, and several other family and friends also accepted the challenge. Yesterday we had lunch and took pictures of our wreaths. Then we posted them online for our friends and family to say which was best. if you have time, please look at them and in your comments please tell me which one you like best. Thanks!

My snippet is from Flood. Last week some of you wondered if my heroine really picked Caleb. Well, this week, judge for yourself.

His lips, firm and warm, met hers. Wave after wave of sensation crashed and broke over her. Her entire body had never felt so alive before. Every single nerve seemed ultra sensitive, and the feel of his hands against her almost took her breath away. The unique scent that was Caleb’s alone surrounded her.  Rational thought left her as more elemental passions surfaced.

“I don’t know why you keep picking me,” he muttered. “I’m nothing, a nobody with a criminal record, a guy with no family, no money, and not many prospects, but you keep picking me anyway.”

And now for those wreaths.

  1. I wonder what her reasoning is, but sometimes, love has no reason, but simply is.

As for the wreath ... wow, they're all beautiful, but ... the M&M got my vote ;-)

  2. I love Caleb! Now for the wreaths, my favorite is the m&m one so cute. It was a hard pick though, I loved them all.

  3. I can't decide on a wreath. I like (in no particular order):

the white one because it is elegant

the grape vine one (below the M&M) because it is simple and rustic

the red and silver ornament one because it's so festive.

If I HAVE to choose one, though, I think it would be the grapevine one.

And, oh, yeah, great snippet. For someone who is so sure of himself Caleb is also unsure of himself. (That probably won't make as much sense when I'm not as tired.)

  5. Caleb won! Woot!

I wonder if I'm getting just a little too invested in your stories, Elaine. :D

I was a tough choice, but cast my vote for the fruitcake wreath. Such a clever use for the stuff!

  6. Okay so the wreath with the guy in a hard hat and what are those mini-fruit cakes? is my favorite. I love holiday's with humor and that made me chuckle.

The snippet was awesome, not sure if she knows why she keeps picking him either. Kinda sounds like Caleb needs to get his S*** together to make it work though.

  7. Well she might find something interesting there.

  8. He better get his act together now. Beautiful snippet.
Wreath # 1 does it for me. I love the little town nestled in the bottom.

  9. I love all the wreaths but M&Ms win my vote. Enjoyed the snippet, makes me want to know a whole lot more about Caleb and why she's picking him. Excellent excerpt!

  10. Awe, it's nice that she's picking him. And so many readers should relate to this. Women always want to fix what's broken--even when it's a man.

I'm a bit of a traditionalist. I like the grapevine wreath with the plaid bow on top. The first one all fluffy white is neat, but I'd still choose that vine wreath. :-)

    I LOVE your wreath-making challenge.

  11. He might think he's a nobody, but to her, he's everybody.

I like the wreath with red and gold bulbs best. I'm a big fan of repurposing objects to create things they're not normally used for, like seashell and button bouquets.

  12. Number 4 gets my vote. And I second what Teresa said, women love to fix what's broken. Great snippet!

  13. Great eight. Well he must be something special because in order to keep her wanting him. I love all of the wreaths, but I would have to say the dunkin stick or twinkie/candy cane one is the most creative. Great contest!!!

  14. Yep, she picked him, and I'm betting he's really glad she did. :D

  15. Loved the emotional scene! I'm sure she'll be able to tell him why she keeps picking him. She must see his worth and I hope she can convince him of it, too. :)
