Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors

Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors, your chance to sample the work of a talented group of authors. When you finish here, you can find more excerpts at:
http://www.wewriwa.com and https://www.facebook.com/groups/SnippetSunday/

Today's excerpt comes from Return Engagement. In this excerpt, my hero and heroine have met accidentally at the beach after a ten year separation brought about by his father who believes my heroine isn't good enough for his son. He just took her to a beach front amusement park where he won a stuffed cat for her. As it happens, at the time of the meeting, Elizabeth is engaged to a lawyer named Alex Crawford.

“I want to be your lover. I want you to say I’m sexy and that you want me. I can’t believe you think I’m sweet.”

Elizabeth willingly threw both discretion and Alex to the wind. What did discretion or Alex matter at a time like this? “Oh, that’s what you want, is it? I’m glad you made your intentions clear, Mr. Lovinggood.” She took a small step toward him and obligingly tilted her face upward.

  2. I feel kinda sorry for Alex... You're so good at that, Elaine. Writing characters that make the readers have conflicted emotions. Good 8! :-)

  4. Poor Alex!
Now I wonder if he is going to kiss her or think about Alex more than she did.

  5. Wonderful snippet. I agree with PT, thinks don't look promising for the engagement.

  6. I'd kind of like to see Alex's take on this . . .

I'm with Teresa: you're very good at hooking readers with your character's decisions! :)

  7. Wow!. Right off the bat. . .trouble and cheating do not bode well for a stable relationship. Terrific snippet.

  8. Poor Alex! I am torn here. I am quite certain she has her reasons for throwing her fiance to the side, but darn it I don't like it! Lol....

My favorite kinds of characters are those who are deeply flawed, so you've got me intrigued. :-) Thanks so much for sharing!
