I've been sharing excerpts from Return Engagement. To recap, my hero and heroine met by chance on a California beach ten years after his father, the powerful senator Henry Lovinggood, broke them up. They had hot dogs at a beach front cafe, and now they've gone to a carnival where she asks him to win an animal for her at the shooting gallery. There's been a lot of flirting going on. Oh, yeah, she's engaged to another man.

I've skipped the part where he actually did the shooting. The sights were off, but he adjusted for them and won her a stuffed cat by hitting ten in a row.

Elizabeth tucked her arm through his and squeezed. “This is so exciting! Nobody ever won anything for me before. You're such a good shot. I bet you’re one of the FBI’s best marksmen.”

Is he blushing? I bet it’s been a long time since a woman made him blush.

She couldn’t resist the urge to tease him. She came to a halt and looked intently into his face. “Why, Richard, are you blushing?”

  1. :-) I can hardly wait to read his reaction to this gentle teasing/flirting.

I saw your fb post about Blue 52 being the sequel. The characters seemed vaguely familiar to me when I read your recent snippets. Now I see why :-) !

  2. He reminds me of my old buddy Phil G., who blushed so easily, and often did it several times a day. I love a man who isn't too proud to blush.

  3. Wow, she is coming so strong at him. She is totally asking for trouble. I'm starting to find it funny.

  11. How sweet! Though, Elizabeth's mood just... well, she's definitely NOT worried about her fiance or her mother at this point, is she?
