So far in my excerpts from Return Engagement my hero and heroine met on a beach ten years after his father broke them up. They find that all of their old feelings are still there even though she's engaged to another man. They've gone to a carnival together, and now they're walking back down the beach to their cars. He just gave her his jacket to wear and said he liked the idea of her wearing his clothes, like in high school.  They sat down on the sand to watch the moon, and both of them spoke at once. Elizabeth told him to speak first, and he told her she didn't really love her fiancĂ© or she wouldn't have been flirting with and kissing him. Elizabeth just told him she can't stand it if he walks away again.Richard is speaking.

Richard jerked her hands away from her face and kissed them. “From my point of view things have finally taken a turn for the better.” Satisfaction oozed from his voice. “You’re willing to admit you don’t want to lose me. It’s taken ten years, but we’re back where we belong: together. Everything I ever felt for you came back the minute you spoke to me.” His voice lowered and became husky and persuasive. “Don’t tell me you didn’t feel it too.”

“I...” Elizabeth fell silent; after all, what could she say?

  1. She didn't need to say anything, did she? Her hesitation and silence speaks volumes.

  2. After all ... he's right. I can't wait to find out what or how she decides.

  3. I'm beginning to wonder if this "chance encounter" wasn't quite as accidental as it seemed.

  4. Hmmm. The foundation has been laid for this rekindled romance. Difficulty lies ahead, methinks... Good snippet, Elaine!

  5. I agree with Teresa, the road ahead is going to be rocky. Hope they are sure of their love.

  6. Serious conflict here and true love should not be like that. Walk away, girl. Run like the wind. Lovely snippet.

  7. OK, I'm feeling more charitable toward them today - at least they're talking! (And my emotions about your characters are meant as a compliment because you've made them so real to me.) Great snippet!

  8. Yeah, the guy's right, darn him!! But what's she going to do about it? Quite a dilemma. Great snippet.

  9. Things are rolling now... Is anything going to be able to stop it now? Does anyone actually want to?

  10. Oh my, how is this going to play out? She'll need to say something...

  11. The scene played out so real. I'm glad he told her.

  12. It's still really complicated and someone is going to get hurt.

  13. Well she could say he's right and she does want to be with him. But this is going to be a sticky mess with the fiancé when he finds out. I hope she does follow her heart though, instead of living with the regret of what she wished she would have done the rest of her life. Great snippet.
