A Word From The Author:

What inspired me to write fantasy romance?

Great question! It took a progression of two separate interests, and a popular series inspiring me to bring them together in a wonderful blend.

My mother got me hooked on romance. She had a bookcase full, mostly of historical romance set in 1800s England. I started reading those when I was about twelve (they were much tamer then lol). I added contemporary romance in my teens. I still read both all the time, and write contemporary romance.

I was also a fantasy lover. My favorite movies growing up were the Star Wars trilogy (still are – the originals, of course). In high school I got hooked on the extended Star Wars world through books. I also started reading Lord of the Rings and many others in those Science Fiction/Space Opera and Fantasy genres.

However, growing up, while there were some fantasy movies that added an element of romance here or there, having the two as equal elements wasn’t hugely common. I didn’t find a ton of books in that combined genre that I liked at the time either, although I know they existed. Really, I feel like in main stream entertainment, only Disney princess movies filled this need. Perhaps that’s why they were so popular?

I also feel like that’s part of the reason Twilight was so popular. It did combine those elements fairly evenly. I remember thinking there could have been more romance in Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and other popular fantasies written by men. Twilight added what I’d always felt was missing and gave me permission to do the same (why oh why did I wait?).

Until that time I’d only tried to write contemporary romance. But when I combined my two favorite genres, boy was it fun. I get to use my imagination without limits and then plop characters in the middle of those worlds and let them fall in love and find a HEA. Does it get any better?
