Book Review: The Elixir

Excerpt:
She flipped on a bright light overhead. Yellow rose petals spread over the entrance. Her eyes followed the petals as they wound into a trail toward the living room.

She unbuttoned her coat with a grin and slung it on the entry table, following the petals. Jake had left work before her. Now she knew why. Jack sat in the corner in a armchair. Warm candlelight lit the room. He must have put out a hundred candles. They filled every table and surface, casting soft shadows over his face.

MY REVIEW:

The Elixir begins with an interesting premise. How far would a pharmaceutical company go to market an elixir that extended life span for many years? As the body counts keeps stacking up the answer is clear. They'd go pretty far. The creator's daughter Celeste is aided in her investigation of her father's murder by friend and coworker Jake. The two have a great friendship and aren't sure they want to chance it to romance. 

The action moves along nicely, and I liked the characters. I also thought it had a nice blend of mystery and romance with clues to keep you intrigued. This is the first Lori Soard book I've read, but I wouldn't mind reading another. 4 stars.
