Beyond the Book: Purple Heart

Welcome to Beyond the Book. Today we'll continue with out excerpts from Purple Heart, my Wild Rose Press release.

Blurb:

Jenna West has no idea what she might have done to her new tenant Mike Hightower. He's surly and hateful every single time they meet, and he looks at her as though he despises her.

He does despise her. She's from the Middle East, and people like her killed his friend Ramirez when the army sent them to Iraq.

Will the power of love work its magic to soften Mike's bitter hatred, or will he ignore his growing attraction for his pretty landlady?

Last Week:

Even now, a year later, he didn’t like to talk about Ramirez. The man had saved his life, but Mike hadn’t returned the favor. He would carry that regret until the day he died himself.

As soon as he’d been discharged, he’d headed for New Mexico to visit Ramirez’s family. The gut-wrenching visit still gave him nightmares. Ramirez’s parents were pitiful in their grief, but his young widow—a pretty, gentle girl who was left to raise a young son without a man to help her—had touched Mike most of all.

He quickly changed the subject. “I appreciate the job. It means a lot to have something waiting for you when you get home.”

This week: In this week's excerpt, Mike meets his old army buddy for a new job.
