Beyond the Book: Purple Heart

Welcome to Beyond the Book. Today we'll continue with out excerpts from Purple Heart, my Wild Rose Press release.

Blurb:

Jenna West has no idea what she might have done to her new tenant Mike Hightower. He's surly and hateful every single time they meet, and he looks at her as though he despises her.

He does despise her. She's from the Middle East, and people like her killed his friend Ramirez when the army sent them to Iraq.

Will the power of love work its magic to soften Mike's bitter hatred, or will he ignore his growing attraction for his pretty landlady?

Last Week:
He liked the convenience of it, the rent was reasonable, and the place looked as if she had just remodeled it. It would suit him perfectly if not for the fact that she owned it.
He thought about it all during dinner. He had to do something soon because today was Friday, and he was supposed to start work on Monday. By the time they finished their dessert, he had made up his mind.

He didn’t like Ms. West, but he did like her duplex. He would go and see the woman, and if she hadn’t rented the place, he’d take it. He didn’t have to talk to her if he didn’t want to. In fact, if he wanted to he could even mail the rent check to her.

This week:

Hmm. Not a bad idea. Seeing her had brought back terrible memories and made him miss Ramirez all over again. He could keep looking too. No law that said he had to stay in the duplex if he found something better.

After dinner, he told his parents what he had decided, and he drove to the duplex. As he parked his car on the side of the road, he spotted Jenna West on her knees planting some flowers. In spite of himself, he noticed the way her jeans hugged her bottom and revealed some nice curves. Huh! He’d known a few guys in the army who had fallen for local women, but it had always ended badly. Ms. West could strip naked in front of him for all he cared.
