Beyond the Book: In the Likely Event

Blurb:

When Izzy Astor gets on a plane to go home, she isn’t expecting much. It’s the usual holiday travel experience: busy, crowded, stressful.

Then she spots her seatmate, who is anything but ordinary. Nate Phelan sports dark hair, blue eyes, and a deliciously rugged charm that Izzy can’t resist. Their connection is undeniable. Izzy never believed in destiny before, but she does now.

Just ninety seconds after takeoff, their plane goes down in the Missouri River.

Their lives change. They change. Nate goes on to a career in the military while Izzy finds her way into politics. Despite a few chance encounters over the years, the timing never feels right.

Then comes a high-stakes reunion in Afghanistan, where Nate is tasked with protecting Izzy’s life.

He’ll do anything to keep her safe. And everything to win her heart.

My Review:

In The Likely Event is a nice read. It has many points to recommend it. It’s action packed, the characters are relatable, there’s plenty of drama, and it is romantic. It caught my attention with no trouble as the book began with a plane carrying the main characters crashed in the Missouri River. The lifetime bond between them is cemented as Izzy trusts Nate to protect her. No worries. Nate would move Heaven or earth for her. This really was a love at first sight romance.

I do have one complaint. If they love each other so much, why does it take them ten years to figure out things? Oh, they’re in love, alright, but for ten years it goes nowhere. They even date other people, and Izzy gets engaged to another man. Nate is always saying it isn’t our time yet. Okay, why not? We get a hint of the reason, but for a love that strong I think I could have figured it out. Maybe I’m getting older because even though I enjoyed the book it irritated me. Ten years is a long time to waste.

Do you ever find yourself getting irritated at the actions of characters in a book? If so, which one was it?
