The last thing he remembered was his futile struggle against the blue. Everything had been blue. He’d felt himself fade as the last vestiges of life fled from his body. His mind had shut down, turning itself off. And then, everything went black.

 

The darkness.

 

That crushing, never ending darkness.

 

Adrian shivered for entirely different reasons as his body heat leached away into the ground beneath him. He breathed deep lungfuls of air, immersed in the simple feeling of being. Blinking owlishly, he rid his eyes of the substance that clouded them while he lay on his back and stared at the ceiling.

A Word With the Author

1.Did you always want to be an author?

 

Answer:

 

I never in a million years thought I’d become an author. I’m a voracious reader and while I’ve always admired authors for their ability to create stories, I never saw myself as capable of being able to do the same. I had no aspirations to being an author. It wasn’t until I had an idea of my own that I slowly began working on that the thought occurred to me. As I wrote my story, I realized one day that it was getting long enough to be considered a novel. That’s when I started having thoughts of publishing my work. After much time and dedication to my own story, I can now proudly call myself an author.

 

 

2.Tell us about the publication of your first book.

 

Answer:

 

My first book is actually A Planet to Nowhere. Publishing the book was a long journey with many ups and downs. After much time and deliberation, I decided to self-publish rather than go the traditional route. That meant that I had to wear the hat of a publishing house and find a way to produce an entire book properly on my own. I found beta readers, editors, formatters, cover designers and organized marketing and distribution. All the things a publishing house normally does for an author fell squarely on my shoulders. Hours of research were a daily affair at the time, not to mention actually working on finalizing my manuscript before starting the process.

 

It took me two months to write what would eventually become A Planet to Nowhere, but it took me years before I was able to turn that first draft into an actual book that other people can read and enjoy. There was a lot of trial and error, but it all worked out in the end, and I couldn’t be happier that I decided to publish.

 

3.Besides yourself, who is your favorite author in the genre you write in?

 

Answer:

 

Orson Scott Card.

 

4.What's the best part of being an author? The worst?

 

Answer:

 

The best part of being an author is being able to read my own story over and over. I started the project with the desire to create a story that I wanted to read. When I realized that I would never be able to find exactly what I was looking for from other authors, I decided to do it myself. Now I get to pick up a physical copy of my book and flip through the pages, immersing myself in it. The entire story is far from over and there’s still so much to it I’ve yet to tell. I’ve actually written three other books for the series. I’m excited to finally publish the rest of the books in the series so that my story will be complete. And then I’ll be able to pick up each book and read the entire story, time and again. I love being able to share my work with the world and hear others’ thoughts and opinions on what I wrote.

 

As for the worst part of being an author? My book is being sold globally and ensuring that every aspect was perfect before publishing was incredibly stressful and took away from me writing. If I could spend all day writing and earn enough to make a living off of it, the series A Planet to Nowhere is part of would probably be completely written down and all that would be left would be publishing the rest of it.

 

5.What are you working on now?

 

Answer:

 

The next book in the series, of course! I’ve written books 2 and 3 already, along with a prequel to A Planet to Nowhere. Right now, I’m actively working on book 4 in the main series. As of the moment of writing this, I would say I’m about a quarter of the way done that book. And once that one is written? I’ll have to see if the series needs one more book to wrap up the entire story. There will come a time when I write the words The End and they’ll signify the end of the series. I both dread and look forward to that day. But until then, I still have so much more left to write. And I know I’ll love every moment of doing it.
