Sweet Saturday Sample: Nightmares

Welcome to Sweet Saturday Sample.  My excerpt today comes from Never Trust a Pretty Wolf.  The book is currently on tour with Goddess Fish.  I'll post the tour info below.  In this excerpt, my hero and heroine have taken off for the greatest adventure of their lives.

Blurb:
Liesel Wolf has a secret, a dangerous secret she’ll go to any lengths to conceal. When she’s paired in a charity game with sexy marshal Andy Bryce, a man with secrets of his own, her carefully constructed world comes crashing down, and Liesel’s on a collision course with her past. They pulled the black limo up in front of the warehouse.

Excerpt:
They pulled the black limo up in front of the warehouse. It
was a crumbling structure with boarded up windows and peeling
paint. Water stood in puddles from the recent near-hurricane that
had downed trees and knocked out power all over the city. A beer
can rolled in front of the car, its tinny sound grating on her ears.

William stopped the car and opened Liesel’s door for her.
The wind pushed and pulled on her coat, blowing her hair across
her face the moment she stepped out of the car. He took her arm
and led her into the decrepit building. Sheer terror assailed her.
Something awful was inside that warehouse. She could feel it.

Gasping for breath, she tried to run, but she couldn’t move.
Her feet churned, her arms pumped. She couldn’t move. Why
couldn’t she move? The small noise that came from her mouth
woke her.

Liesel sat straight up in bed, gulping oxygen into her
heaving lungs.

A dream. Only a dream. She wiped her sweaty face

with the motel sheet.
Staggering out of bed, she felt her way to the bathroom in
the dark. She shut the door and turned on the light. Water. Water
would wash away the sticky sweat.

She splashed her face and sat down on the toilet to recover,
her breathing gradually returning to normal. After drinking a cup
of water, she went back to bed.

  7. Scary scene -- I remember it from the book. I like the way you shifted the reader's focus from the big scene to the tiny detail of the beer can rolling across the road (and including its sound too).
