Billionaires. Scholars. Relic hunters.
Alessandro and Maximus Luceres are a united force and dangerous wolves to cross. Members of the powerful House of Luceres, they have spent their lifetimes searching the world over for the Lupus Sanguis Chalice, the fabled wolf blood chalice reputed to save the life of a human bitten by a werewolf during the first full moon.

But never in all their travels did the twins expect to find their possible Forever Mate, much less discover the beautiful Trinity Wells to be in league with their sworn enemies, the nefarious House of Ribelle, who are seeking the precious chalice by any means necessary and want Trinity to mate with one of their own.

Shockingly, Trinity is bitten by a Nomad wolf, starting the clock ticking down to her possibly fatal transformation and making the discovery of the chalice all that more vital.

Will Trinity survive the change…and unite the pair of brothers rivaling to be her Forever Mates?

“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today…”

Maximus vibrated with excessive energy, droning out the minister. Standing there like a stuffed turkey in his dove-gray morning coat and tails, waiting for his brother and mate to conclude the official ceremony, all he could think was sign the damn contract already. The sooner he got out of this godawful monkey suit and had an extended run in the clear, crisp desert air, the better.

He stretched his neck under the stiff white collar. There wasn’t much call for such attire in the sacred halls of a dusty library, researching ancient writings, seeking clues to the whereabouts of sacred objects, in particular the House of Luceres’ holiest of grails, the Lupus Sanguis Chalice. Just thinking of laying his hands on the priceless item made his pulse quicken.

Lives spent in the higher halls of learning was a calling he and his twin Alessandro were well suited to. He didn’t want the unenviable job of being CEO of a string of worldwide casinos, like the ones his soon-to-be married brother reined over, though he admired how his sibling managed the position with such style and grace.

But even Cristaldo had to release his wolf on occasion, to manage his beast effectively. Maximus hid a grin at the reminder of how off-the-rails his alpha sibling had become when he’d first met up with the lovely, all-too-human Everly. He’d nearly lost it, according to their brother Lucius—Cristaldo’s twin—who took great glee in reminding everyone of the fact.

“And do you, Everly Joy Affini, take this man, Cristaldo Maximus Luceres, to be your lawfully wedded husband, until you are reborn?”

“I do.”

His brother raised his mate’s veil and the look of adoration and love so clear in his eyes made Maximus glance away. Sly, sitting in the first row of pews as acting majordomo of the House of Luceres, let out a loud sob, his kindly face creased with contentment as he pressed a snowy-white handkerchief to his mouth.

A sense of need and envy stirred deep inside Maximus, its rawness taking him by surprise. What is this? He ran a finger between his shirt collar and his neck in an effort to loosen it. Taking a deep breath, he forced himself to remain still and see the final part of the ceremony to its expected conclusion. His twin Alessandro stirred at his side, apparently needing a deep breath of his own. The church was too hot and too stifling by half.

Saturday Sample and Weekend Writing Warriors

Welcome to Saturday Sample and Weekend Writing Warriors. Today I'm sharing  excerpts from Return Engagement, my first book about the Lovinggood family. I've already shared some of the first part so I'll be doing a little jumping around. First a blurb, then that excerpt. Oh, and on Sunday when you finish here go to www.wewriwa.blogspot.com for more excerpts from a talented group of authors.

Blurb:

Elizabeth Lane is one lucky woman. She has it all-money, fame, a satisfying career and a devoted fiancé. Her humble beginnings are all but obscured, but she isn't the kind of woman Senator Henry Lovinggood wants for his son, Richard. Senator Lovinggood plans to make Richard the President of the United States; he'll need a woman from a wealthy, powerful family by his side. Ten years ago the senator broke Richard and Elizabeth up, but this time it won't be so easy, for Elizabeth wants to know what might have been. This time she'll fight back, a struggle which ultimately leads to kidnapping and attempted murder and alienates her from the man of her dreams.

Last Weeks Excerpt:

The doorbell rang just as she joined her mother in the kitchen. She looked out the window and saw a blue delivery van sitting in the driveway. “Who’s that?” she asked. Her heart had picked up a little speed. Ever since the kidnapping, unexpected happenings made her nervous.

“I’ll go see,” Mrs. Lane said. She returned with a huge bouquet of roses.

Elizabeth fumbled for the card which had accompanied the flowers. “They’re probably from Alex. He knows how I love roses, but I’m surprised he’d send red. He knows I like yellow ones better.”

She read the card and wished she hadn’t. She should simply have ignored it. “They’re from Richard, right?” Mrs. Lane asked.

“Yes, how did you know?”

“Look at the envelope. Only one person would have sent the roses to Elizabeth Lovinggood instead of Elizabeth Lane.”

Elizabeth passed the card to her mother as her stomach knotted. The vague, ill-defined anxiety she had lived with for the last six weeks threatened to choke her. She had wondered how long Richard would leave her alone, and now she knew. She only prayed he wouldn’t arrive in person a few minutes from now.

This week's excerpt:

Mrs. Lane opened the card and read aloud:

Elizabeth, In the language of flowers, red roses stand for love. I do love you. Are you ready to see me yet? Richard. ”

“That’s a good question,” Mrs. Lane avowed. “Are you ready to see him? Wouldn’t it be better to get it over with? You have to do it sometime.”

Elizabeth stirred restlessly. “I don’t know. In one way I want to see him so bad I can taste it, but when I think about him, I break out in a cold sweat. Just seeing his name on the card makes my heart race.” She gave an unhappy little laugh. “I wish I knew what the trouble is.”

“Does seeing him trigger flashbacks?”

“It did when I was in the hospital, but since I got home I’m fine. Of course, I haven’t seen Richard since I got home either . ”

Mrs. Lane passed Elizabeth’s card back to her. “If I were you, I’d get ready for a meeting. I think his patience is almost gone. I’ve been expecting him to make a move for some time now. I’m sure the roses mean he’s ready to claim his wife.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right,” Elizabeth sighed. “Patience has never been one of Richard’s virtues. It surprises me that he stayed away as long as he did.”

EXCERPT:

"Dr. Olivia Chasen,” Santa’s jolly baritone popped her mental fuzzy bubble.

She stopped as she struggled to whirl around. “Me?” She touched her chest with a dramatic flourish she didn’t know she possessed.

A powerful spotlight illuminated her; its heat burned her already flushed face.

She pressed a clammy palm to her chest. “How do you know my name?” The haze in her mind was paralyzing all cognitive function.

“My dear girl,” Santa chuckled, “you should know by now that Santa knows everything and everyone,” he tapped an index finger to his temple.

Santa Claus turned to address the waiting line. “Girls, Boys, Moms, Dads, everyone, if you don't mind waiting for a brief moment, I'd like for Olivia,” he pointed a white gloved finger at her, “to please come up here on stage, and tell me what she wants for Christmas.”

She stood dumbfounded as the audience and the people in line clapped and chanted her name, “Olivia! Olivia! Olivia!”

Oh no! What was she going to do? She couldn’t possibly go up onto that stage. She was far too shy to address a theater full of people.

But if she didn’t go that would be so unexciting and so like the old Olivia.

But she wasn't unexciting! She was the new Olivia, and she was exciting! And she wanted to have fun! Correction: She was determined to have fun. Besides, she’d never see these people—her fellow passengers—ever again.

A Word With the Author

1.Did you always want to be an author?

I actually wanted to be an actress (when I was 13.) I was in the mindset that someone walking down the street would just want me in a movie. (I live in Colorado, so this isn’t something that just happens.) In 8th grade, I became obsessed with Mini-Series that brought books to my TV. I decided that writing a book that was eventually turned into a mini-series was going to be my in to being in movies. In the end, I fell in love with the process of storytelling, and writing books.

2.Tell us about the publication of your first book.

My first book was published in 2010 by a small press as their first publication. It was an unfortunate experience that led to amazing things. When I decided the publishing house was not the right fit, for SO many reasons, I decided to open my own publishing house to publish under. The editor who was assigned to me came with me as well. The following 11 years have been amazing. I have published 45 of my own books and over 170 books by 70 different authors. But getting that first book in the hands of readers was AMAZING! You never get that same feeling again, but you never lose the thrill.

3.Besides yourself, who is your favorite author in the genre you write in?

I’ve recently started to read Marie Force. I’ve always enjoyed a good Nora Roberts romance as well.

4.What's the best part of being an author?

The worst? The best part of being an author is creating. I love building families people want to be part of. The worst part is the let down when you’re done with a project and you have to do all the back door stuff, but all you want to do is keep creating.

5.What are you working on now?I am finishing a Christmas title before I write the last book in the Funerals and Weddings series.

Amazon Review: “Loved it!”

Rock star Thomas splits his time between the recording studio and baking cookies.

It’s going to be HARD to stay away from him...

At the age of eight, Erika asked Santa for a typewriter. That was when her parents, quite surprised, realized that she was not like all the other children. However, when she received her first heavy, professional and brand new “Olivetti Letter 35” that Christmas, it was love at first sight. She immediately started writing the words that soon became her first short story. Over time she bought a much more efficient computer, but that typewriter will always have a special place in her heart: it was her first love.

Erika was born on December 6, 1979 in Valdobbiadene in the province of Treviso, a small village at the foot of the Prealps. Both her parents were born and raised in the same town where they still live today. Erika moved to Padua at 18 to attended university, and after graduation, she did not return to Valdobbiadene but followed her heart and traveled worldwide, living in Los Angeles, Vancouver, and London and visiting North America and Europe.

It was at Nicolò Bocassino primary school where she met the teacher who made her fall in love with books, writing, and studies in general, encouraging her creativity and eventually starting her on the path toward being a writer.
