GENRE:   Poetry

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
World of Stars is a collection of poetry that portrays the beauties of nature and human experiences in the world. The poems enumerate various places, events, personas, notions and conditions that deserve poetic attention. A portion of the poems are made for tributes and gratitude to great personas who make this world as adorable as it is.
The poems are on varied topics and distinct from each other. Abstract and subjective ideas are woven into the poems to highlight the degree of transcendence. All the poems are metrical composition. By illustrating the good side of the world and nature within it, the poems aim to elevate people to a good way of looking at life as beautiful and meaningful.
Armageddon
When ever days go by and nights come on
Changes of times are thence daily forgone.
If cyclones, earthquakes, or thunder-storm
Never to worry is the cause of universal norm.
Things come to pass when happens to nature
Events take place to make one of the better.
Challenges, challenges, - more challenges
Out of woods and sailing aboard knowledges
Nothing will be left incurable out of barrages.
God is always there any time we observe
Divinity is ingrained along spiritual reserve.
With no aggression or victims of obsession
Freedom and liberty are words of civilization.
When human fleshes are united with spirits
World of stars will timely reveal lasting treats.
When moral and social issues are uncommon
Inner-growth of peace is sworn Armageddon.
A Word With the Author:
Q) Did you always want to be an author?
A) I wanted to be author since the year 2000. Before that time I felt I could write a book that would have an impact on readers, and as I continued mostly reading poetry, the passion of being a poet sunk into my head. I also had interest to write screenplay and I started both poetry and screenplay at the same time.  Down the road, I got more interested in poetry and started to outline my materials for poetry and worked hard on it. The choice of poetry is due to the substances of my life experience in which I thought to have enough stories in verses well than screenplay or novel. Thus, I figured out the area of writing and started to write ‘World of Stars’ a poetry I thought to be significant.
Q) Tell us about publication of your first book.
A) My first and only published book so far is ‘World of Stars’ that I wrote ten years ago before returning to writing screenplays. When I found out the possibility of self-publishing my first book of poetry, I chose Tellwell a Canadian publisher to get ahead with publishing ‘World of Stars’ and done so.
Q) Besides your self, who is your favorite author in the genre you write.
A) Classical poetry writers, William Blake, Ezra Pound and Edgar Allan Poe are my favorite authors.
Q) What is the best part of being an author? The worst?
A) The best part of being author is feeling satisfied with the topics and subject materials discussed in the writing. Also getting then brain at work seriously on writing is the best part. The worst part of being an author is when and how to get to a publisher.
Q) What are you working on now?
A) I am writing my second and my last poetry collection with a title of ‘GLORIOUS EXPEDITION’ which is narrates the first sailors around the world.  Ferdinand Magellan is the lead character along with h crew members.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
The world and life in general was promising to me until I was 17 years in my native country of Ethiopia. While a high school student in 1974, the world around me came crashing down when communist military Junta took state power and soon started a killing spree, at times committing mass murder. This was very traumatizing and the start of Stalinist ‘Red Terror’ on the ground. It was bad enough to hate being in life. From this, I quickly learnt life in the world is about taking on adventures.
With six of my school friends and one of our teachers, we formed an alliance to take action against the Junta. With 2 years of preparation we had managed to inform the public and get the local police headquarters on our side. Then, in April 1976 we staged a rebellion without violence in Nekempte, provincial capital of Welega.  The revolt was short-lived, nothing lost with little gain. Amidst media control of the Junta, the news of rebellion was heard across the country. After that, my friends and I vowed to individually take on challenges for democracy as a life-long mission. We split apart and I went underground. When the security situation became harsh, I left the country for Sudan.
Despite traumatizing news and the realities around me with the ‘Periods of Gloom and Doom’, I took refuge in reading classical poetry which became my long time passion.
After a long journey through ups and downs, I suffered a car accident in Sudan, and left Africa all together - migrating to Canada in 1990. Through my journey in life, I looked around for a drug of relief from grief and nostalgia.  Poetry reading had become my choice for entertainment and to delete bad memories and traumas. Soon after I realized that positive poetry is as good as drugs, music and paintings are, I decided to write one and here I begin with World of Stars.
Snippet Sunday
I didn't have much time to write this week, but I did get a little more done on my new WIP. No blurb or title to share yet. If you see anything off about the excerpt do let me know. When you finish here you can go to http://www.wewriwa.blogspot.com for more excerpts from a talented group of authors.
Last Week's excerpt:
Late afternoon. The Isle of Palms hung suspended between the ordinary hustle and bustle of the day and the blue calm of the evening. The tide had come in so the beach house was closer to the ocean than it was in the morning. Rhett parked his car in the driveway and stared at the house in front of him.
He had lived in this place his entire life, although not in this particular house. Hurricane Hugo came along in 1989 and destroyed the first residence, but his parents had rebuilt in the same place. The current home was built on big pillars sunk deep into the ground and had three stories. Big, wraparound porches could be accessed from each of the three stories. A little cupola sat on top of the house. The Landers’ first home had been painted pale blue, but his mother had chosen white for this one.
Long shadows across the ocean mimicked Rhett’s mood as he slowly dragged himself out of his car. Coming home at the end of a long session in Washington always thrilled him, but tonight… Drawing a deep breath, he ignored the majesty of the sea and the fresh-smelling, salty breeze and went inside.
This week's excerpt:
“Why, Rhett, you’re early,” Alex cried, her face aglow. She set down a wine glass and danced over to greet him, looking very much like poetry in motion.
He threw his arms around her and buried his face in her hair, well aware that this was the last time he’d touch her before he ripped their lives apart. Once she found out what he had to say their world would be different no matter what she decided to do.  His head buzzed and he felt dizzy as emotion ripped and tore at his vitals. What would he do if she left him? Drawing a deep breath, he stepped away from her, hoping he hadn’t squeezed her too hard.  “Let’s go upstairs to talk.”
She laughed, the sweet, ringing sound full of the joy they’d always taken in each other. He bit his lip so hard he tasted blood. It was then that he noticed the silence in the room. His parents and both of his sons were staring at him as if he were a stranger who’d barged his way into their living room, a man they halfway feared.
Judge Landers cleared his throat. “Did you have a good trip?”
“No.”
“You look upset. You’re not acting like yourself.”
Upset? Yeah, that was one way to put it. “Dad, we’ll talk later, okay? I want to talk to Alex.”
The judge nodded, the inquisitive, worried look in his eyes telling Rhett that his father knew something out of the ordinary was taking place.
Beyond the BooK: The Words We Whisper
Book Blurb:
As a hospice nurse, Zara Mitchell has already seen more death than most people will experience in a lifetime. So when her older sister asks her to help care for their ailing grandmother, Zara agrees—despite strained family relationships.
Though pale and tired, Nonna has lost none of her sharp mind. She’s fixated on finding something long forgotten, and she immediately puts Zara to work cleaning out the attic. Unexpectedly, amid the tedium of sifting through knickknacks and heirlooms, Zara also reconnects with a man she’s attracted to but whose complicated past makes romance seem impossible.
But then Zara finds what Nonna was looking for: a wooden chest, an emerald broach, a leather-bound journal. As she immerses herself in stories of heroism and loss set against the backdrop of war-torn Italy in 1943, Zara finds answers to questions she didn’t know she had. And they change everything she thinks she knows about love, regret, and seizing the day.
My Review:
This is a really good read! I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it. I like World War II stories, and this book moves between war time Italy and present day United States. I knew there was a connection between the two time periods, but all of the dots weren’t connected until the very end of the book.
The characters are super well drawn. So three dimensional and real. In fact, in a couple of places I might have shed a tear for the people who endured loss and hardship, and that is true of both the chapters on the past and those on the present. Yet, hope and love are threads that run through the story. The author also has a talent for description. I felt anxious when I was reading about war time Italy because of the suspense in the writing. This was a time in history when ordinary people became heroes as they struggled to survive and liberate themselves from oppression. Yet the part of the book set in the present was just as powerful and compelling.
If I gave ratings on the books I read, I think I’d give this one five stars.
Saturday Sample and Weekend Writing Warriors
 Recently, I started a new book. I don't have a title or blurb for it, and I'm in the process of figuring out where I want to go with it. I thought I'd share the beginning with you, though.
On Sunday when you finish here you can find more excerpts from a variety of talented authors at www.wewriwa.blogspot.com
So, here we go. First page of the latest WIP.
Tales of a Mermaid Gone Over the Deep End
Tales of a Mermaid Gone Over the Deep End
by Teresa Fischtner
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Non-fiction (biography/autobiography)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Advance praise (payback) for Teresa Fischtner:
"Well, this is a little embarrassing. I didn't actually read the WHOLE book, but it's probably pretty good. I'm not sure what she said about me, but you should know—SHE shot me in the back on my 19th birthday!"
– Ronny Fischtner (author's son)
"I love my mom and I love MOST of this book. It should be noted that my bowling has improved, I've given up hockey, accounting is for nerds, pancakes is food for super heroes and no one needs to count how many boyfriends I've had."
– Malyn Fischtner (author's daughter)
"I'm pleased to be the source of so much humour for my wife. I just wish she didn't feel the need to publish it."
– Ron Fischtner (author's husband)
"It was the last class of the evening that I was teaching, and we were doing our stretches, and at the surface of the water I noticed a single floating nipple happily bobbing away on its own. Unsure if its owner was still in the water, I quietly asked the nearest lady, "Excuse me, could you just pass me that nipple over your right shoulder?
"There I held a lovely C-cup breast that went rogue. I made posters for the lost breast (seriously, I made missing boob posters). No one claimed her. I introduced her to all the instructors, but no one recognized her (honestly, they all look the same after a few years at the pool). No one ever claimed Betty (yes, we gave her a name). Betty stayed on the teachers' table in our special little box for a long time. Eventually, like all good boobs, she wrinkled up, lost her bounce, and sagged lower and lower in the box until we all forgot how much fun she was when we first found her."
This is a feel-good book of true short stories about me, my family, friends, and my aquafit business, Over the Deep End. We all have stories to share, and the true ones are always the best. I'm sharing some of my most vulnerable moments, some of my greatest moments, and some of my saddest. Hopefully, in one story or another, you find something way better than me—you might find you. We all have a story and a different way to tell it. I hope telling my stories helps you tell some of your own.
EXCERPT:
We often do circuits in the pool; there are stations set up all along the parameter of the pool, each with a different exercise to be done. Everyone is at a different spot, and they do one minute of each exercise and then move to the next station. There is always chatter during circuit classes; there is no instructor to talk over, so it’s a good time for small talk in the pool. I noticed everyone was avoiding one lady. They weren’t talking to her, and some were even turning their backs to her to avoid eye contact. She was at the back wall of the pool, so I couldn’t see her face to see if she had noticed the cold shoulder her classmates were giving her. As soon as she turned the corner to face me, I saw the problem: one nipple took jump squats up a notch and jumped out of her suit! Ugh, this was going to be awkward, and I had to get to her before she got to the steps. The step circuit is in the shallow end, and you have to go up and down the first step as quickly as possible. You are only in waist-high water and bouncing. Both her girls needed to be strapped back in before that station. I made eye contact with her and gestured to her bathing suit strap.
She smiled and waved back.
I crouched down and, as quietly as possible, said, “Your bathing suit needs adjusting.”
She smiled and laughed back; she couldn’t hear me over the music. I tried charades. I physically tucked my own boob into my sports bra. At this, she really laughed, and to be honest, I do some weird shit on deck, and that move wasn’t entirely out of character for me. It was time for her to go to the step; there was no way she wouldn’t notice the inequality of her bounce at that station. Damn! That nipple bounced through a full minute on the step. It was mocking both of us, and at this point, everyone in the pool was pulling up their own straps and looking at me with an expression of “Do something about this, now!”
I stopped her after the step and said, “Hey, your boob is out.”
She looked down and was the only one in the room to be surprised by what she saw. I talked to her after class and sympathetically said, “Hey, shit happens—it’s just a boob.” I don’t think she felt the same. She quit classes shortly after that.
The pool is kept at eighty-eight degrees, and the room is always hot and humid. Getting dressed out of a wet bathing suit in a hot, humid change room can burn as many calories as the aqua fit class. We run through the winter, so dashing home in a towel isn’t always an option. However, wearing a bra is completely optional! Bras are the hardest part of getting dressed, and everyone starts classes with dignity and proper attire, but as they exhaust themselves and get more comfortable, the bra is the first to go. I know a new customer will become a long-term customer when she comes jiggling out of the change room saying, “To hell with my bra, I’m going home like this!”
In the words of the great late Helen Reddy, “I am woman hear me roar.”
Once an uninhabited island off the California coast, the government used Morple to quarantine minorities during the sonoravirus pandemic from 2030 to 2045. At its conclusion, Morple became the country’s fifty-first state. This is where sisters Robin Karros’ and Ariana Jackson’s tragic journey began. As two of the first children officials checked into and raised in a state-run program responsible for inflicting severe abuse on Morple’s youth, they shared hardships that strengthened their bond. After a social revolution put an end to the program and freed them, Robin and Ariana went their separate ways. Now that it is 2089 and each has achieved prosperity, their paths intersect after spending the latter portion of their lives apart. Even though it goes against protocol, Ariana reestablishes a relationship with her older sister and integrates with her family. In doing so, she risks her marriage and husband’s business interests, but it causes her to realize she must make up for her life’s biggest mistake. It soon becomes apparent the fate of Robin, Ariana, and others has been more intertwined than they ever could have imagined.
Read an Excerpt
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: As much as we hate him, the antagonist moves the needle! The beginning demonstrates he was, what appeared to be, a working man, but then it becomes clear he is deranged in the head. I also believe it contains enough intrigue to get readers interested without spoiling too much of the plot, even though this is significant to the story.
When he wasn’t indulging himself in a novel or soaking in his multimillion dollar vantage point, Reginald often reflected on his accomplishments and miscues. To the dismay of many, accolades riddled Reginald’s resume. He negotiated the details of historical mergers with clean energy companies that heavily impacted Morple’s economy, boosting the state’s impact on the US’ role in clean-energy initiatives across the globe. He bullied through legislation allowing the advancement of A.I. in The District to pass. He orchestrated deals involving Morple-based companies selling clean resources to states running out of them. Reginald’s fingerprints were all over Morple’s foundation. The good and the bad.
The years Reginald mentored Robin and Ariana were the most fulfilling of his life. Possessing that much power over two untouched girls was an incredible opportunity he felt extremely fortunate to experience. Regrettably, Reginald let it get away from him prematurely.
The night he let himself into the Sorens’ shitty apartment and found Robin on the couch alone he knew he had stumbled upon someone special. During their first interaction, he could feel their connection begin to take its shape, as she showcased her toys to him and explained what made each one unique. A gesture he would always remember with great fondness is when he rubbed her soft cheeks with his thumb and she smiled up at him with those jaw-dropping eyes, even so early on in her life. Robin was too young to express her thoughts, but Reginald detected their bond right off the bat. From that point on, everything he did was in an effort to earn Robin’s genuine love. Reginald became more enamored with her as she continued to develop throughout the years. Her body and mind began to take shape at quite a young age, and he considered it a privilege he was the first and, what he thought at the time, the only man who will ever have her. As in love as he was with Robin, Reginald was regularly depressed at his inability to mold her into who he wanted her to be. Yes, he punished her periodically by way of sex, but he had the best of intentions. He thought if he demonstrated what followed unacceptable behavior she would no longer act in that manner. This proved to be counterproductive because her disobedience continued, and she associated them becoming one as a punishment, as opposed to immersing herself in their affliction. If it weren’t for Richard, Reginald would have likely committed suicide well before Morvo, when he realized Robin would never truly love him. A few times standing at the ledge of his property, he almost found enough courage to do it, but he was too much of a coward to act on his true intentions. He told himself it was because he didn’t want to leave Richard without any parents, but the truth was he was too craven. Reginald’s disheartened love life took precedence over his only son’s well-being.
EXCERPT
Natan—if she could choose her husband… But her father would never accept a shepherd who also worked as a lowly temple guard to help feed his family. The high priest’s daughter married a priest.
She saw him glance around, then he faded into the wall. Then she heard pounding on the door. Without thinking, she grabbed a candle and ran downstairs, wanting to be the first one to answer. The servants were in bed, but they would waken to the racket. She picked up the pace, reached the door first, and opened it quietly.
Natan’s eyes narrowed into slits. “You live here? This is the house of Boaz?”
She nodded, scorched by the anger in his gaze. “What are you doing here?”
She heard the slap of sandals against the ground. “We’re close,” a gruff voice shouted in the distance.
“Hide me.” Those eyes, black as midnight, drilled into hers until she squirmed. Her heart beat faster. He stank of sweat, rotted food, and the copper of blood. She breathed through her mouth to prevent herself from gagging. She should say no. Her father would never allow it. She would put her father and everyone in the house in danger.
“Please,” he whispered, his breath hot against her skin. She shivered, even though it was summer.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Hello, I’m Shari. By day, I crawl out of bed, mainline coffee, walk the dog, miss my kid who has gone off to college, and save cities within the four walls of my office. Usually by email.
At night, the other Shari emerges.  With a glass of wine by side, I curl up on the couch with my computer nestled in my lap and let my imagination play until stories take shape. I also periodically text my kid, just to make sure myself she’s not plotting world domination, then I pull out my alter ego, who definitely is.  As my alter ego, I save cities in a cape and spangled tights, wander space and time on a surfboard, fly over the Himalayas on feathered wings, make six-toed footprints in indigo talc snow on the sixth planet in the Andromeda galaxy or eavesdrop on Olympian gods while pretending to whip up a bowl of ambrosia.
In all these wondrous worlds, romance and passion blossom. I can't resist a happy ending. And I am particularly prone to writing happy endings for those who have given up on ever getting one.
