Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors

Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors, your chance to sample the work of a talented group of authors. After you finish here, you can find more snippets at:

My excerpt today is from Rest Thy Head. In this excerpt my hero and heroine have taken a group on a camping trip. They are sitting around the fire telling ghost stories.

Lucille smiled at Peyton. “The experts haven’t reached any hard and fast conclusions. Some say ghosts are residual energy left behind after a person passes. Others say ghosts are a telepathic image. A sensitive person might pick up on events as they happened years ago. Some even say when you see a ghost you truly are seeing another time.”

Peyton shivered in spite of the fact she didn’t believe in ghosts. It was dark now, and there was no light anywhere except that from the campfire. The darkness made it easier to believe.

  5. Right. It's easy to not believe in ghosts when the sun is overhead. Not so much when it's pitch dark and scary. :D

  6. Wonder how she'd react to meeting one.

  7. It's always interesting to see people's explanations for ghosts. I've always liked the late Arthur C. Clarke's theory, that it's the seeing process working in reverse, where a person sees the image in the mind and then it's transmitted to the eye.

  9. Terrific line, "The darkness made it easier to believe." I can almost feel the darkness around me reading this snippet. Very factual and yet not at all boring. Nicely done.

  11. Oh isn't that the truth. That's why scary movies are best in the dark, and late...My daughter and I were just watching one of those Ghost adventure shows, and the Brookdale Lodge was featured. That's where hubby and I got married. It was fun watching...in the light of day : )
