A heartbroken Kara just wants to get on with her life and hunky Ross provides her with a definite distraction—that is until she starts falling for him. Big time.

But a devastating family secret threatens to destroy everything that Kara holds dear—including her relationship with Ross.

This excerpt takes place on Kara's first date after her fiance dumped her for her sister.

Ross didn't hold her the same way.  Somehow, she felt that he was totally in charge of this kiss, and that wasn't always the case with Brandon.  She clenched Ross's shoulders.  His kiss was charged with a smoldering sexual energy that had been sadly lacking of late in Brandon's kisses.  Her fingers played across his back. Brandon had never felt so masculine and hard.

Okay, here's a blurb, then an excerpt.

Blurb:
Is it possible she’s finally found Her Kind of Man?

Ross Williams has been in love with Kara Cochrane since they were kids so when Kara's fiancĂ© Brandon Miles cheats on her and calls off their wedding—Ross steps in to rescue the damsel in distress.

A heartbroken Kara just wants to get on with her life and hunky Ross provides her with a definite distraction—that is until she starts falling for him. Big time.

But a devastating family secret threatens to destroy everything that Kara holds dear—including her relationship with Ross.

Excerpt: In this excerpt, my hero and heroine are on their first date after Kara's sister stole her fiance.  Yeah, it was her sister who took her fiance.

Ross lifted her chin from his shoulder and kissed her.
She kissed him back. Brandon might not want her, but Ross did, and by golly if he wanted a kiss she’d give him one. It did feel strange to kiss someone besides Brandon. Ross didn’t hold her the same way.  Somehow, she felt he was totally in charge of this kiss, and that wasn’t always the case with Brandon. She clenched Ross’s shoulders.  His kiss was charged with a smoldering sexual energy that had been sadly lacking of late in Brandon’s kisses. Her fingers played across his back. Brandon had never felt so masculine and hard!
Kara forgot about her meeting with Brandon’s parents, and she forgot about coming to the lake with Brandon. She’d have to be made of stone not to pay any attention to this kiss.
When Ross raised his head, Kara’s eyes fluttered open.
“That was nice,” she whispered, or maybe she only thought she said it. She didn’t know.
He bent his head again, but the lights from a passing car illuminated the SUV’s interior. Kara pulled away from him.
“Don’t, Ross. We shouldn’t be parked on the side of the road kissing each other.”
“Then where should we park?”
Kara blinked and tried to pull herself together.  “What?”
“To kiss. Where should we park so I can kiss you?’
Kara smiled in spite of herself. “We don’t need to be kissing at all. I don’t make a habit of kissing men on the first date.”
“You don’t know that,” Ross retorted. “It’s been a long time since you had a first date.”
The book is available at the following places.  Don't forget the 25% discount.

Fashionista Friday: We Don't Wear This Now

Isn't this a cute little outfit?  My heroine from Her Kind of Man, Kara Cochrane, won't wear it anymore even though it's really cute.

Sandals: http://www.dsw.com  $20
Purse: http://www.tillys.com $20.00

So why doesn't Kara ever wear this outfit?  It reminds her of an evening she'd rather forget.  This excerpt from Her Kind of Man will tell you what happened.

What a great movie!” Kara gushed as she and Katie left the theater. She tossed her empty popcorn box and leftover soda into the trash can by the door. “Mama and Daddy will want to see it too.”
Katie blew her nose and dabbed at her eyes. “I know. It was too sad for words.”
As they left the theater and crossed the parking lot, Katie turned her head at the sound of a car door slamming.“ Why, there’s Kelly and Brandon.”
Kara looked in the direction of Katie’s pointing finger. “Great! They can….” Her voice trailed off as Kelly moved into Brandon’s passionate embrace!
“What…?” Kara’s words choked her as Brandon buried his hands in Kelly’s hair and kissed her as if he held the world’s greatest treasure in his arms.
Katie grabbed her arm. “Come on. We’re getting to the bottom of this.”
Kara dragged her feet as Katie towed her across the parking lot. “Katie, maybe….”
“What’s wrong with you?” Katie glared over her shoulder. “Hurry up!”
Kelly and Brandon were still wrapped around each other when Katie and Kara reached them.
“Kelly! ” Katie exclaimed. What do you think you’re doing?”
Kelly jerked away from Brandon so fast she stumbled and had to grab his arm to keep her balance. Even in the dim light in the parking lot Kara saw her sister’s face had gone scarlet as had Brandon’s.
Kara didn’t say anything. She couldn’t.
Kelly flinched as Brandon took her hand and squeezed it. “I’m sorry, Kara. We never meant for you to find out this way.”
“What were you going to do?” Katie demanded with a wave of her hand. “Leave her at the altar?”
“No,” Kelly replied. Her eyes glittered like two burning blue coals. “We planned to tell her tomorrow night. We wanted her to have the weekend off to…to…to get used to things.”
Brandon looked Kara directly in the face for the first time. “I’m sorry, Kara. You have to know I never meant to hurt you, but I can’t marry you if I’m in love with your sister.”
Yikes!  I wouldn't wear the outfit either.  Her Kind of Man is now available at http://www.lachesispublishing.com/proddetail.asp?prod=HerKindofMan or at http://www.amazon.com/Her-Kind-of-Man-ebook/dp/B007TCJ36E/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1334274167&sr=1-1  It'll be available at B&N very soon.

Twyla's Last Trip

Hello, readers.  Please help me welcome Karen Mueller Bryson to my blog.  Karen, thank you so much for coming.  Can you tell us a little bit about you?

I am an award-winning screenwriter, published novelist and produced playwright. I am the founder of Short on Time Books, fast-paced and fun novels for readers on the go. I have a “day job” as a university professor and I write in my free time. I am fortunate to have an extremely supportive husband, who allows me the time I need to write. I also have two loving bloodhounds, who keep my company at the keyboard.

2.Why did you become a writer? What keeps you at the keyboard from day to day?

I learned to read at a very young age and, soon after, I had the desire to write my first book. I’ve been passionate about writing even since! When I was a child, and people asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up, I always said I wanted to be a write. I’ve always been passionate about creating characters and telling stories.

I feel as though I have more ideas for stories than I’ll ever have time to write, so I take every opportunity I have to write! There only a few things I‘d rather do than write.

3.What’s the hardest part of writing for you? The easiest?

Because I work full-time at a university, it is sometimes difficult to find the time to write. I do the best I can with the free time I have. I’m not sure there is anything “easy” about writing. I think developing one’s writing skills takes time, dedication and persistence. I will say the best part of writing is having a completed project!

4.What are you working on now?

I’m in the final editing stage of my young adult romantic comedy novel, Retro Geeks, which will be released in a few weeks. I was also just hired to write the biography of sports icon Cindy McCoy, the Rookie Roller Queen. I’m also working on two new time travel adventures for my middle grades series, The Incredibly Awesome Adventures of Puggie Liddell. I’m also in the planning stages of two new screenplays.

5.What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

I would tell aspiring writers to write every day and be persistent. It takes time to develop one’s writing skills. I would also say to never let anyone discourage you from pursuing your dreams of becoming a writer.

6.Would you share your links with us?

Short on Time Books: http://www.shortontimebooks.com

Readers, I don't know about you, but I'm ready for some excerpts.  This one is from Tywla's Last Trip.

Lucinda peered intently into her microscope until Bunny's voice blared from the intercom—again. “I'm sorry to bother you, Lucinda, but Mr. Yates is on the phone. He says he won't hang up until he speaks with you personally.”
Lucinda took a deep breath, stood and exited the lab. She marched over to the reception desk and ripped the phone from Bunny's grasp.

“Lucinda Starr,” she growled into the phone. “How may I help you?”

Thirty-year old T.J. Yates, the epitome of all things country, spoke to Lucinda from his cell phone. “Miss Starr,” he said. “I know we've never met but I've been your mom's attorney now for nearly a decade.”

“Will you please get to the point?” Lucinda interrupted. “I'm in the middle of an extremely important experiment.”

“I hate to be the bearer of bad news but your mom has passed away.”

Lucinda flinched slightly but then it was back to business. “And what does this have to do with me?” she asked.

“Well, Miss Starr, you are the sole beneficiary of your mom's estate.”

“Estate?” Lucinda snorted. “My mother was a cat lady, who lived in a trailer.”

“Miss Starr,” T.J. continued. “I don't think you understand.”

Before T.J. could finish, Lucinda slammed the phone into the receiver and hurried away.

.J. looked at his cell phone dumbfounded. People never hung up on him, especially women.

Dakota, his two-year old bloodhound, glanced up from her doggie pillow and gave her head a tilt.

“I think this requires a little trip up to Chicago,” T.J. said.

Dakota just yawned and plopped her head back down on her bed.

Peter, thank you so much for coming by.  Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

First off I want to thank you Elaine for hosting me today. This is all new to me so having you help me on this is truly appreciated.

My name is Pete and I write under the name Peter A. Brandt. I am married and we have five kids who are all adults now. I am a Canadian and my wife Carly and I live in the Middle East where I am working as a Technical Writer. I was in the Army and Air Force and used my technical background to become a technical writer when I retired.

I don't miss the winters, yet, but the summers here are brutally hot so we try to get back to North America during that time.

I love to write anything - novels, screenplays, technical writing and I am even trained as an actor. I have acted in some movies and television shows and some of my acting reels can be found on my personal website.

I just wrote a screenplay for a director friend of mine and even wrote myself an acting part in it. We filmed it last month.

2.Very interesting, Peter.  I've never been to the Middle East.  Is this your first YA novel?  Have you written other things as well?

No. I have written several novels before but only recently did I realize they were all young adult fiction.

"2066" is about life on earth in the year 2066 with global warming and no oil. A young man with the ability to see the weather and future of earth has been asked to go find an old shaman’s daughter who has disappeared in a vile part of the earth.

"Crown Prince from Texas" is about a young man from Texas who thinks a made for TV movie is all about his life and decides to head to Canada to claim his stolen birthright as the crown prince of Canada. Both of these stories include young people in the lead roles.

I grew up with the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew series and my next novel, "Holly Alexander and the Mystery of the Courthouse Square" is fashioned after those novels. It is also about a young girl who moves to a new town and soon finds herself in major trouble that will take all of her cunning and help from her new friends to get out of it.

3.They all sound wonderful, especially the Holly Alexander novel.  When speaking about The Maple Express, you said, "The Maple Express delves into the actions and consequences of a young girl who has never had to take responsibility for her actions before."  Did something you observed in the real world motivate you to write this novel?

Yes, I grew up in a very dysfunctional household, which did nothing for my self-esteem so being very small, and immature I was bullied a lot.

Sara Maple is a bully who was taught by her wealthy mother about being entitled and doesn’t like it when she doesn’t get her way. I have a real thing for bullies and writing about Sara brought out some hidden anger issues in me, but, with most things in life, Sara has the opportunity to change how she treats herself and the rest of the world. It takes an unconventional journey for her to confront these issues.

4.How do you think writing a YA novel is different from writing an adult novel?

So for me, writing young adult stories gives me an opportunity to show young people, who think they have nothing to offer the world, that they have a lifetime ahead of them to become whoever they want to be. Young people are at that point in their life where they are ready to step out into the world and positive feedback to boost their self-esteem is very helpful.

For me, I never really grew up. I still act like a kid most of time. I was appallingly ordinary, geeky, a late bloomer in body and mind and didn’t have much going for me when I was a kid, and yet I turned out to have a pretty sweet life.

Adult books are different in that most adults already know what their destiny in life is and have gone for it or have consciously ignored the call. I think writing adult stories are more geared toward a dilemma and making them work through it than boosting their self-esteem and showing them new ways to live their life.

5.Good answer!  Would you share your links with us?

My personal website is http://www.peterabrandt.com and publishing company is www.simplesimonpublishing.com.

6.We'd love to read an excerpt.

BLURB:   Sara Maple has a comfortable life—the only child of a wealthy family—a best friend who does everything she asks—and the admiration of most of her schoolmates. Unfortunately, her temper and “indestructible” attitude quickly place her in a very precarious position.

“The Maple Express” is a powerful novel that captures the author’s take on the miracle of the human mind. “The Maple Express” delves into the actions and consequences of a young girl who has never had to take responsibility for her actions before. The story brings the reader into a world where Sara’s determination to find her way off the train sends her on an emotional trip that bonds her to her new friends and changes her life forever.

Both young and old readers will love the emotional journey Sara Maple takes them on as she deciphers the obstacles that confront her. Sara’s story ends with a surprise twist and leaves the reader with a sense of discovery about his or her own humanity.
 Excerpt
It took Sara a few seconds to comprehend where she was. As best as she could tell, she was staring at an upside down Thomas Cole painting that appeared to be zipping along at a tremendous rate of speed.
The wind in her hair and face made her eyes water and saliva run from the corner of her mouth. Sara closed her mouth and swallowed.
The last thing she remembered was stepping up on the ladder that led to the train engine. When she woke, she was staring at the scenery, dangling upside down, and being held by something that had wrapped itself around her ankle. Her face was mere inches from the ground. She couldn’t distinguish any one individual rock — they were all shooting past her too fast to see anything more than a blur.
Sara turned her head to find out where the noise was coming from. She knew the sound of the wind that rattled past her but the throaty metallic rattle that overpowered it was far more excruciating on her ears.
The wind spun her a quarter turn and what she saw caused a scream to erupt from deep inside. Two large train wheels were spinning along steel tracks. The sound she heard was steel hitting steel. The pistons created the swooshing sound as they pounded the wheels around, propelling the train forward.
Sara looked for something to grab onto but there was nothing within her reach. She felt like a side of beef dangling in a butcher’s freezer.

Pete, thanks so much for joining us.  Your work sounds fabulous.
