HAPPILY NEVER AFTER
by Bess George

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Dallas ADA Kelsey Brackston survives a brutal attack but struggles with PTSD. When someone begins to stalk her, she relocates hoping for a new start. A person can’t be hurt if they can’t be found. Her logic seems flawed when someone tries to kill her—again.
This could be Bode Taggert’s last chance at being a cop after crawling out of a bottle. Focused on the job, he avoids personal commitments. Something within him resonates with the lady ADA. Maybe it’s her desire to move forward after a life altering event. Or not being able to move forward no matter how hard you try.
Despite his good intentions, Bode falls for the sexy lawyer. While he and the police concentrate on arresting her stalker, Kelsey vanishes. With his career—and heart—on the line, Bode will stop at nothing to find her. But will their newfound faith in one another be enough to save the day? Or will their inner demons destroy them both?
EXCERPT:
Fight or flight kicked in and her rational brain shut down. She backed away from the stranger, clasping her hands together to control their violent trembling. Like a trapped animal, her eyes were frantic as they searched for escape routes, her heartbeat roaring in her ears. The wall stopped her backward progress with a jolt just as recognition hit her.
The cop.
She was safe. Two dark brown eyes pinned her in place as they stared at one another.
A soothing voice at her side broke the connection. David placed his arm around her shoulders and gave a gentle squeeze. “This is Bode Taggert, honey. He’s one of the detectives in the Redding police department. Bode, this is ADA Kelsey Brackston.”
Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors
Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors, your chance to sample the work of a talented group of authors. When you finish here you can find more excerpts at:
http://www.wewriwa.com
I've been sharing excerpts from Return Engagement. To recap, my hero and heroine have met on a beach ten years after his father broke them up. Both are greatly affected by the meeting, and in spite of the fact that she knows she shouldn't since she's engaged, my heroine agrees to go to dinner with him. In this excerpt they're walking down the beach looking for a place to eat.
Pull yourself together! Elizabeth mentally gave herself a shake. Right, easier said than done. Her fingers curled into fists as she and Richard walked down the beach. She had dated Alex for two years, but he had never made her feel so...so...flustered. Yes, that was it. She felt flustered. Spending time with Alex always gave her the warm fuzzies, but Richard’s blatant masculinity had thrown her into a tailspin.
Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday
Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors, your chance to sample the work of a talented group of authors. I'm been sharing excerpts from Return Engagement. Last week we found that Senator Lovinggood, Richard's father, visited Elizabeth (heroine) and basically told her to stop using his son for sex, and if she cared about him to let him go. At first she refused, but when she and Richard ended up in her bedroom, she broke it off with him. He was only 17 at the time, and she was 22. Ten years have gone by, and in these excerpts, Richard and Elizabeth who's now a big Hollywood star, have met by accident on a California beach.  These are Richard's thoughts when he realizes that Elizabeth is in the movie being filmed on the beach.
An icy chill swept across him in spite of the warm sun. He was still afraid she’d reject him. Now one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, Elizabeth Lane could have any man she wanted. In fact, he’d heard on TV that she’d gotten engaged to some lawyer. He couldn’t think of a single reason why she’d have any interest in seeing an old boy friend again. The last time they saw each other he’d been a green, inexperienced kid which was probably the way she still thought of him. A grim smile crossed his face. He hated that lawyer.
Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors
Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors, your chance to sample the writing of a talented group of authors. I'm been sharing excerpts from Return Engagement. In all of the excerpts, which I didn't put in order and should have, my hero and heroine have met on a California beach ten years after his father broke them up. Dad didn't think Elizabeth was good enough for his son. Richard's father is a powerful senator, and he plans for Richard to be the President of the US one day. The senator doesn't like Elizabeth because she's an actress who comes from a bad background.In this excerpt my heroine is thinking of how Senator Lovinggood broke her and Richard up. He stopped by her house and had a little talk with her.
The senator’s cold eyes bored into hers. “Richard is only seventeen, but you are twenty-two. Presumably, you are more experienced than he is. Truthfully, I blame his infatuation for you on his inexperience. Don’t take advantage of an impressionable boy, Miss Lane. Richard isn’t a toy to be used for your pleasure and then discarded. He’ s being groomed for important work in the future, but if he keeps seeing you he has very little chance of winning any political office. If you care about him let him go. ”
Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors
Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors, your chance to sample the work of a talented group of authors. My excerpt today is from Return Engagement one of my Whiskey Creek Press releases. When you finish here you can find more excerpts at:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/SnippetSunday/
An accidental meeting on a California beach leads to a proposal after a long separation brought about by my hero's father who didn't think my heroine was good enough to be in his family.
He exhaled noisily as his head dropped to her shoulder.
“Not that it matters,” he murmured, “but why’d you say yes?”
“I…I’m not sure. Maybe it’s the way I feel when you
hold me. Maybe it’s because you’re so darn forceful. Maybe
it’s because I’ve never been able to forget you.” She paused.
“Maybe it’s even because I love you.”
E.A. West and Battlefield Of The Heart
Happy Monday!  Oh, I know that Monday usually isn't our favorite day, but we may as well pretend since we can't change it anyway. One of my favorite authors is a lady who writes for Astraea Press. Her name is E.A. West, and I thought I'd try to brighten your Monday with some information about her and her latest release. I know you're going to enjoy it.
Blurb:
What started out as a bit of research for a sociology paper quickly turns into much more than Cindy ever expected. But can she survive Danny’s PTSD long enough to form a relationship with him?
Cindy Waymire, a college senior in search for a topic for an upcoming sociology paper, finds more than a topic when she meets Army veteran and college freshman Danny Flynn outside the student union. An undeniable attraction to this troubled veteran leads her on a difficult and wind-ing path that brings her to a crossroads — get into a relationship with a man who has serious mental health problems or turn her back on one of the best men she’s ever met.
Can Cindy set her fears aside and follow her heart, or will the ghosts haunting Danny’s mind end their relationship before it begins?
Excerpt:
A dark-haired guy with an athletic build, not more than an inch or two taller than her height of five foot nine, stood scanning the area as though he was lost. Clean-shaven, with just a hint of a five o’clock shadow along his jaw, he wore a T-shirt and jeans, both fitting just tight enough to hint at lean muscles. Cindy considered taking a candid photo and sending it to her girlfriends, but her cell phone was in her purse and digging it out would be too obvious. Maybe she could find another way to share this cutie with them.
His actions reminded her of her own during her first semester there. She’d had to ask someone where to find buildings so many times. Without those sympathetic upperclassmen, she would have been perpetually lost.
If he was a new student, that made her the sympathetic upperclassman. She stopped near him and smiled. “Hi, can I help you find someplace?”
He didn’t seem to hear her. She moved closer, thinking he might not realize she was talking to him. “Excuse me.”
He twisted and grabbed her wrist with startling speed. She screamed as he spun her around, bringing her arm behind her and forcing her to the ground as he said something unintelligible, but undeniably commanding. As he put a knee on her back and pulled her other arm, she heard people running toward them and prayed they could help. The guy was strong and no amount of struggling did any good. He just tightened his grasp on her wrists and applied more pressure with his knee, making it difficult for her to draw in a breath.
“Danny, let her up!” a male voice said as the running steps stopped beside them.
“He’s a threat.”
He? Before Cindy could figure out what the guy was talking about, she felt some of his weight lift from her back.
“She’s a noncombatant, Sarge,” a third male voice said.
The grip on her wrists loosened. “What?”
“You’re in the States, man.”
“Crap!” He released her wrists, and his weight lifted from her completely.
