blurb:
Liesel Wolf has a secret, a dangerous secret she’ll go to any lengths to conceal. When she’s paired in a charity game with sexy marshal Andy Bryce, a man with secrets of his own, her carefully constructed world comes crashing down, and Liesel’s on a collision course with her past.
Excerpt: In this excerpt, my heroine is trying to escape Marshal Andy Bryce.
After parking in the airport’s long-term parking area, she
made her way to the terminal. Since the police knew about the
body in the cave, Liesel Wolf probably couldn’t buy a ticket, but
Leslie Cochran could. She bought a ticket to Montreal, inwardly
wincing about paying such an exorbitant price, then decided to get
something to eat. Her plane didn’t leave for two hours, and she was
starving to death. No wonder. She hadn’t eaten in some time.
She got in line at one of the eateries in the airport and
bought herself a cheeseburger and a drink After she finished her
meal, she went looking for something to read. As she strolled down
the concourse, she found a bookstore selling the latest Elaine
Cantrell novel. The clerk had just taken her money when someone
tapped her shoulder.
She turned around, her heart in her throat.
Stay impassive,
she reminded herself. Seconds later she hoped she wouldn’t fall to
the floor in a dead faint because Andy Bryce stood there staring at
her. “Yes?” she said, arching her eyebrows inquiringly.
“It was surprisingly easy to find you.”
“I’m sorry, but you seem to have made a mistake. My name
is Leslie Cochran.”
For a moment she saw doubt in his eyes, but only for a
moment. “Your disguise is very good. You almost got away with it.
Now come with me quietly, or I’ll handcuff you and drag you out
of here.”
Liesel did neither. Instead, she screamed at the top of her
lungs. “Help! Help me, someone! Help!”
Oh my, like screaming is going to help her, but I like it!
ReplyDeleteOh, very suspenseful...I like the bit about the "Elaine Cantrell" novel...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing...and here's MY SWEET SATURDAY SAMPLE
Great scene! I like Liesel's quick reaction -- putting Andy on the defensive -- but will it work? I also smiled at "the latest Elaine Cantrell novel." I did something similar in my WIP by including a friend's name. Fun, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteGot to love the free plug you put in.
ReplyDeleteGreat hook at the end
Oh, she's smart! Love it!
