I hope everyone will come back on tuesday for my virtual release party celebrating the release of The Enchanted. I'll post chapter one, and I'm offering a nice prize. Find more lovely sentences by participating authors here.
The doctor put an oxygen mask over David’s face and
gave him an IV. The pain started to
recede when he injected something into the IV.
“I think he’s
right about his ribs,” the doctor finally commented. “We’ll do some x-rays when we get him to the
hospital, but I don’t think they’ve punctured his lung. He doesn’t want to breathe because it hurts
him.”
By the time the
chopper landed David felt almost human again.
He could breathe better too. Now
if he could only get a bath before that wonderful medicine wore off.

I wonder what happened, he's hurt.... i'm interested.
ReplyDeleteBath's help cure almost anything :-) (or at least they make you feel better). I can't help thinking that something horrible is going to happen any moment, though...
ReplyDeleteIf he doesn't breathe as deeply as he can, through the pain, he's going to have worse problems down the line . . . poor David!
ReplyDeleteoh, too SHORT.
ReplyDeleteI was just getting interested.
Poor guy! I can't imagine broken ribs and am totally wincing in sympathy for him right now!
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty expressive. It's kind of a 'linking' snippet, getting us from one scene to another, and it helps break the tension from the previous scene. Nice job.
ReplyDeletePoor David - didn't remember him being hurt - but broken ribs/punctured lungs is definitely and ouch.
ReplyDeleteNicely done and love the ending line. Good #8Sentence
Thank goodness they got out of there!
ReplyDeleteIs it safe for him to take a bath while the medicine is in effect? I don't know what they gave him but some of those things can be dangerous when mixed with a tub full of water.
Don't know how my Tuesday will go, but I'll try to make it back for the release party. :)
Michael, I can't find your excerpt.
ReplyDeleteJeff, did you sign up? Can't find you in the list.
ReplyDeletehope he gets his bath. I am posted this week - still no story - but some poetry - hope you enjoy
ReplyDeleteOuch, poor David. I really feel for him. He must be in terrible pain. Lovely snippet!
ReplyDeleteMmm, medicine is wonderful indeed. This reminds me of the time I got two healthy morphine injections because I was harboring the kidney stone that ate Tokyo. Great excerpt, Elaine!
ReplyDeleteThat wonderful medicine!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new release. I'll make a note to come back on Tuesday.
Reminds me of the time they gave me too much pain medication in the hospital and I quite breathing.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure in the Amazon!
ReplyDeleteToo short, I agree. More. I want more. Happy sales for your terrific, different story, Elaine.
ReplyDeleteSue Ann, a little of that stuff goes a long way. I'm glad you survived it.
ReplyDeleteBroken ribs do hurt like nothing else, I can testify to that, so I have deep sympathy for the character! Another excellent excerpt!
ReplyDeleteGoodness, hope he's okay. Glad they got some pain killers into him.
ReplyDeleteGlad he got some relief! Looking forward to the next instalment.
ReplyDeleteYes--before the medication wears off! :-) Good excerpt, Elaine.

They are finally out. I wonder what will happen next.
ReplyDeleteSorry it's taken so long to comment on your Wewriwa post. I've been so lost in this darn story I'm writing I barely remember to eat until late afternoon.
ReplyDeleteBut I like these exotic settings and kidnapping for ransom, and big strapping men with crazy skills come in and rescue the heroine/hero.
