We know so far that Rocky ticked off drug dealers and had to fake his death so he can enter the witness protection program. Rocky called Aimee even though he wasn't supposed to and told her he'd bought a house for them. Aimee has car trouble and is worried about how she'll get to Rocky's home. She's nervous about being stranded on a deserted road too. A man who knows her name comes riding down the road on a horse and speaks to her. It's Cade McCoy, the man who helped Rocky fake his death so he can enter the witness protection program. I've skipped some paragraphs where Cade and Aimee talk about how there's only one realtor in town, and she was the one who sold Rocky's house to him. Cell phones don't work in that place so today Cade is offering Aimee a lift.
Excerpt:
Aimee’s lips tightened. If the house had been on the market
for a long time, that June person might have sold Rocky a money
pit. There had to be some reason why nobody wanted to buy it.
Honestly, sometimes the man was as naïve as a child.
The horse snorted, distracting Aimee from her thoughts. “So, do you want that lift?” Cade asked.
“You mean on the horse?”
His lips twitched as his eyes danced. “Why not?”

Was he laughing at her; he was!
Blurb:
Aimee Sherwood never dreamed that following her fiancé into the witness protection pro-gram would land her in a haunted house in a town that’s downright creepy. She’d have laughed if she had been told the guy who lives down the road might be her soul mate, not the man whose ring she’s wearing. Life in West Virginia is nothing like life in Los Angeles, but between bean ball battles with Marilyn Monroe, remodeling a crumbling farmhouse, and starting a new online business, life in the country is anything but boring.

His humor seems deserved, considering how she's acting around the horse.
ReplyDeleteSeamless, Elaine, the horse as the catalyst pulling her from that deep third moment. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat was a fantastic snippet! Loved when she asked, "on the horse?" I hope she takes the offer, her on a horse seems like it will be entertaining :) Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteSounds like he's just toying with her! She should go for a ride anyway. :-)
ReplyDeleteAgain, she's in trouble. First one guy and now the other. HELP!
ReplyDeleteOh how funny, I'd completely missed the point that if he gave her a lift, it would be on horseback! Terrific.
ReplyDeleteOoo, read the blurb. So it's not a money pit; it's haunted. Looking forward to reading more.

ReplyDeleteI detect something suspicious. Or am I just being cynical? Great snippet.
Oh dear! What a plot line. You described him laughing at her ( okay - trying NOT to laugh at her) perfectly :)
ReplyDeleteLove her surprised "on the horse?" LOL I wish she'd see how Rocky is a loser. (At least, I think he is.) I hope she doesn't jump from into a worse situation.
ReplyDeleteUnless he has an invisible car, the horse is pretty much it. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome. I'd totally accept as well.
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't seem very trustful toward Rocky, I'm a bit wondering why she was with him in the first place.
