My Review

It was the title of this book that caught my attention. As a writer myself I understand the burning necessity to tell my story, and folks when you've been bitten by writing fever you really don't have much choice. You have to write.

The stories in the anthology are all different, but they all have something in common. First, they are filled with a passion for life and all it has to offer. Second, the stories all ring true, authentic, and genuine, and third the writing flows well and keeps your interest. I don't have any problem recommending the book. If you're like me you'll be sorry when you finish the last story.

5 stars.

The Son of God

Sharon Lindsay is a woman who reads the Bible and sees the drama of the ancient stories like vivid movies rolling across her mind. She is the author of the 5-book Son of God Series, a writer who grounds her fast-paced fictionalized account of the life of Jesus in Biblical studies, historical research, and personal experience. Her own experiences, the times when heaven has supernaturally stepped into her life, allow her to write this Biblical story with the authority of someone who has come face to face with the spiritual forces of Good and Evil. Sharon is a graduate of Washington Adventist University (formerly Columbia Union College). She is a retired teacher with 37 years of classroom experience, elementary through middle school. As a retiree, she continues to teach in the church setting and has found that both adults and teenagers who read The Son of God Series are captivated by her fresh and relatable retelling of the Gospel account. She is an active member of a Messianic Jewish Congregation.   Title of Book: The Son of God Series, Book 1: Unto Us   About The Book Sets up the power-struggle between God and Satan. The sweet Christmas story? No, this is the story of a young Jewish couple unexpectedly thrust into the cosmic war between Good and Evil. They have been entrusted with the life of heaven’s king and Earth’s savior. How will they survive?   Amazon     Title of Book: The Son of God Series, Book 2: This is My Son About The Book In Book 2, This is My Son the supernatural conflict between Good and Evil continues to focus on the boy Jesus. Satan manipulates people and events but is not allowed to directly attack during Jesus’ developmental years. Throughout this period, the Kingdom of the Evil One continually engineers the circumstances of life hoping to bring confusion, fear and rejection into the life of God’s son, the one chosen to bring salvation to humanity. When the men of Nazareth become involved with the Galilean, Jesus watches the father of his best friend die on a cross. Through the confusion of those years, Father God and Joseph guide Jesus into his true identity, Son of Heaven and Son of Earth destined to die for humanity. Amazon   Title of Book: The Son of God Series, Book 3: Prepare the Way About The Book In Book 3, Prepare the Way the major characters in the Biblical narrative are called on stage: John the Baptist, the disciples, Pilate, Herod Antipas and others. The intrigue of Rome clashes with life in a land governed by the Law of Moses. John the Baptist runs afoul of the ruler of Galilee and Pilate must back down after taking a tough stance with the Sanhedrin. In the Judean wilderness Satan tries to end the mission of Jesus before his ministry begins. In this book, Jesus moves from small-town carpenter to well-known rabbi, scandalously infamous in Jerusalem and faithfully followed in the countryside. Amazon

Excerpt
Nikiya “Nikki” Barnett

Nikiya Barnett, known to shop patrons and friends as Nikki,

was eager to tune in to RFRT with Sister Sappora Ink. The

blog talk show previewed for the first time the past week,

rating high and considered a hit by reviewers. As far as Nikki

was concerned, the world needed someone who would tell t

the truth, live the truth, and share the truth, even if it were a

blog talk show host.

As explained, Sister Ink answered questions about

relationships, and although honest, she was raw. Against her

will, Nikki listened to blog talk shows often blaming the

desire to be a good best friend for this phenomenon. A

couple of them were worth listening to, but some were uninformative and a useless waste of time. The hosts were inexperienced or too pretentious to explain life’s circumstances with realness and clarity. They failed to solve problems or share foundational truths from the Gospels, as Chelle declared Sister Ink did.

For the first time, Nikki’s curiosity about a show’s review

ignited interest and Nikki refused to miss it. Intent on

judging for herself perhaps sparked the motivation. It may also have been the desire to understand how she lost the love or her life or the need for spiritual advice. Either way, Nikki would be in the front of the computer, with an open mind centered on Sis. Ink.

The only dilemma was making it home on time. Nikki’s solution may not have been perfect but it was plausible. She drove 85 in and 70 mph zone, praying the angels would blind the police. The inability to afford another speeding ticket should have detoured Nikki from breaking the law, not to mention how dumb it would be to get a ticket resulting from rushing to hear a talk show, but it didn’t. With long hair weave blowing, as the wind whipped through the windows of the car, Nikki uncaring and unconcerned bobbed and sang along with the music. We are conquerors, conquerors.

Driving fast, the “zooming” of the other passing vehicles warranted a rear view mirror check. Dang Nikki! The thought was not a result of a police approaching, but the reality of looking at a calescent mess. Nikki snickered, but noticed the children in the car to the left laughing and pointing their fingers. Nikki licked at the children and then sped past them.

Judge Shocks Community

By Thomas Bell          Controversial Judge Marion Lowe shocked every person in his packed
Staff Writer                 court last Wednesday when he passed sentence in the Clint Hayes case.  Hayes, 27, who works for Bud Parsons at Bud’s Private Club, was found guilty of burning Saved By Grace Community Church last April.

Originally, Hayes was arrested for arson.  His fingerprints were found on a beer bottle in the church parking lot the night the church burned, but a sheriff’s investigation revealed the fire was caused by a cigarette that Hayes threw into an azalea bed.  Authorities believe the cigarette caused the dry mulch around the bushes to catch fire, and the flames spread to the church.  The building was a total loss.

After consultation with Reverend Neal Amos, the pastor of Saved By Grace, Judge Lowe sentenced Hayes to six months in the care of Reverend Amos who in effect will be his jailor.

“The verdict was a surprise,” admitted Rachel Amos, 24, the minister’s daughter.  “My father discussed the situation with my mother and me, but to be honest we never dreamed the judge would go along with it.”

Several members of Saved By Grace have expressed their support for Reverend Amos’ decision, but they admit there are some who want nothing to do with Hayes.

Local civil rights groups have announced their intention to get the verdict overthrown, but so far Hayes says he wants the sentence to stand.

Until the new church is constructed, Saved By Grace is meeting at Sterling High School.  Sunday School is at ten o’clock followed by worship at eleven.  Anyone wishing to make a donation to Saved By Grace’s building fund may do so at People’s National Bank.

A Beautiful Wilderness

AUTHOR: DUPE OLORUNJO
BOOK TITLE: A BEAUTIFUL WILDERNESS
GENRE: INSPIRATIONAL FICTION
Paperback: 222 pages
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (May 27, 2014)
ISBN-10: 1492275042
ISBN-13: 978-1492275046

10 Things You Didn’t Know About A BEAUTIFUL WILDERNESS
A Beautiful Wilderness (ABW) is Keanu Omira’s Story of redemption. It’s inspirational fiction and is set somewhere between the present and the future. If you have read the book then you probably know that already. Here are 10 things you didn’t know about ABW….
1)     WHAT INSPIRED ME TO WRITE THIS BOOK
Early one morning on my way to work, I was stuck in traffic and found myself on the same spot a whole 20 minutes. The time passed very slowly as I found myself drawn to a lame beggar settled beside the  road, all set up for the morning. Several thoughts filled my mind as I watched what must have been his daily routine for many years in the past and probably for many years to come.

I began to imagine that, in any set of even slightly different circumstances anyone of us could have been in this man’s shoes; different parents, different country, different side of the town. Then I realized that I am where I am today just by the grace of God and I became thankful to God.

My imagination ran wide and wild and within those 20 minutes, the story line for this book was created and fully formed in my mind.

2)     IT HAS A PARALLEL TOUCH POINT STORY LINE WITH ONE OF THE MAJOR STORIES IN THE BIBLE.
Try looking through the book of Daniel and you should be able to hazard a guess as to which one.

3)     ABW TOOK ME 3 YEARS TO COMPLETE.
I started late in 2010 and rounded it up in Dec 2013. That is a long time in anyone’s writing career, but I did want to get the story development, flow and presentation as near perfect as possible.

4)     ABW WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL TITLE I HAD IN MIND
The original title at the development stage of ABW was ‘Mirror on the wall’. But then I noticed that each time I picked up the manuscript the word - Snow White popped in my mind. That gave me an indication that the title was just wrong.

I eventually chose ‘A Beautiful Wilderness’ as I was rounding up the first draft, for the love of its originality, the play on words and the conflict it presented.

5)     GOLDEN
I’ve never owned a dog but ABW has one that is full of life and is a bonafide member of the Omira family. He is a Golden retriever and it actually took me days to research on what his features and personality  would look like. By the time I was through, I wanted to own a dog.  *Smile*

6)     WHAT IS HOMELESS LIKE?
How do I know what homeless is like? Many years ago, I would drive by a real life homeless settlement under a real life bridge on my way to work every morning. I studied and studied the activities of this Lagos colony. One fateful day I even experienced what it was like to be the victim of a robbery attack. A team of 4 young men shattered the windows of my car on the highway, snatched my bag and casually walked away to the car behind me. If all that wasn’t enough to feed my imagination then I wonder what else would be.

7)     MIDNIGHT BLUE
I was in church one Sunday, when a friend told me the color of her hat was midnight blue. Both the colour and the name sounded so exotic and I immediately stored it away in memory knowing I would use it somehow in my next book.

8)     WHICH CHARACTER IN THE BOOK IS THE AUTHOR MOST LIKE?
That has to be Bisi Sanders. I have been told that I can be prim, proper and panicky just like her.

9)     HOW IS THIS BOOK DIFFERENT FROM MY PREVIOUS BOOKS
I think one major area is that ABW showcases some of the real struggles and temptations that even dedicated Christians face on a daily basis. For example, Cathy, a growing Christian who professes to love God, found it difficult to properly handle the challenges with her husband.

10)  JACK
Jack is one of the minor characters in ABW and I found him to be such a lovable and unpredictable gentleman. He crept into the story during one of the early re-writes and I immediately fell in love with his character. I can’t let him go just yet, so I plan to write Jack’s story sometime in the very near future.
