Turnaround Farm is a kindle unlimited title available at https://wingsepress.com/turnaround-farm/

Blurb:
If up and coming realtor Holly Grant can buy Turnaround Farm for her client, her business will boom. Who says you have to have a man in your life to complete you? She’s fine as she is thank you very much. Her first problem is that Jeb Wakefield doesn’t want to sell his farm, and her second problem is Jeb’s grandson Dan, the finest looking man Holly’s ever seen.

Excerpt: Chapter One
Last week
Hiring help would have greatly simplified their lives, but they couldn’t afford to pay a salary. Gradually though, they had found a few owners willing to trust them with their horses, but he knew the Wakefield name still had a nasty ring to it when horse people got together to talk.

His eyes swept around the beat up kitchen and family room. He remembered a time when everything was shiny and beautiful, but it didn’t look that way now. The house had twelve rooms, and because of its age, it needed a lot of expensive repairs and maintenance, but they had neither time nor money to spend. In fact, they only heated the kitchen and family room. Consequently, the house became more dilapidated with each passing season. If they didn’t find the money to fix the roof soon, the ceilings upstairs would fall down on them as they slept.

Oh, yes it bothered him to watch the house deteriorate, but worry about the house paled in comparison to his worry about Dan. Dan labored unceasingly to repair the damage done by his father, but he didn’t have much to show for his efforts.

This Week: We begin where we left off last week.

Jenna West has no idea what she might have done to her new tenant Mike Hightower. He's surly and hateful every single time they meet, and he looks at her as though he despises her.

He does despise her. She's from the Middle East, and people like her killed his friend Ramirez when the army sent them to Iraq.

Will the power of love work its magic to soften Mike's bitter hatred, or will he ignore his growing attraction for his pretty landlady?

Last Week:

Mike Hightower parked his new red Mustang in Taylor-Lord’s parking lot. The factory had come to Eden’s Crossing right after he volunteered for the military, so he didn’t know too much about it, but the grounds looked very well kept. He didn’t see so much as a stray leaf lying in the grass.

He got out of the car and walked toward an impressive entrance constructed of dark, bronze glass. He opened the door and entered a large reception area. Several sofas and chairs upholstered in a bronze and green contemporary design provided a jolt of energy for the room, and the floor covering looked like marble. Several small trees in decorative tubs soared toward a high ceiling studded with skylights.

He made his way toward a glass window in one corner of the room, nodding at a man in a suit who sat on one of the sofas studying his phone. A woman sat behind the window. He cleared his throat to get her attention.

This week: Mike reports for work and meets Carol.

We'll continue with out excerpts from Flood. I hope you're enjoying them because I really enjoyed writing the book. Before we get to the except, let me share an Amazon 5 star review with you. I was very pleased with it.

If you love animals and romance, this is the book for you. Aria is a caring veterinarian and Caleb is a former convict who ends up working for her. The romance has a nice, steady build, not too much at once. You can see how these people really fall for each other. I love how protective Caleb is and how Aria believes in him. The flood adds a tense, exciting element to the climax. I definitely recommend this book!

Blurb:
Drawn together by their love of animals, Aria De Luca and Caleb Hawkins burn for each other. They never suspected that malignant forces around them were successfully plotting Caleb’s ruin from the moment he entered her life. When the flood of a century strikes Aria’s hometown, an alienated Caleb is all that stands between her and catastrophic loss.

Last Week:
He called out and waved to the woman who turned and walked his way. All at once Peaches bayed and took off at a dead run in his direction. He held out his arms, and she launched herself at him, bowling him over, licking his face and whining while her tail wagged a mile a minute. “Good dog,” he crooned as he stroked her head and fondled her ears. “Good Peaches, I missed you.” Swiping his eyes, he hoped nobody was watching him make a fool of himself over a dog.

She looked great. Although she had some scars on her back, her coat shone. Her eyes were bright and clear, and she must have gained ten much-needed pounds. Her attitude was better too; he saw no trace of fear or aggression in her eyes.

This week: He struggled to a sitting position when the woman reached them. The sun shone directly into his eyes so he couldn’t see her face. “Hi, I’m Caleb Hawkins. Can you tell me where to find Dr. De Luca?”

“I’m Dr. De Luca.” She reached for Peaches’ collar, but the dog evaded her and resumed licking him. “Sorry about the dog jumping you. She didn’t hurt you, did she?”

He escaped Peaches’ embrace and scrambled to his feet. Good grief!

Last Week:

“Thank you so much for taking her.” She yelled to a man who’d just entered the lobby from the back of the room. “Ed, go get Peaches. This is Dr. De Luca.”

Ed rushed forward and shook her hand instead. “We’re so grateful to you, Dr. De Luca. It would have killed Caleb if Peaches hadn’t been saved. I’ll go get her for you.”

This Week:

When Aria and Lila sat down, she brought them a soft drink and took the chair beside Aria. “How did you hear about Peaches? We’ve all wondered about that ever since you called us.”

“I saw it in our local newspaper,” Aria replied as she popped the top from the soft drink can. “It just sounded like something that shouldn’t happen.”

The woman nodded and sent dark curls bouncing. “You’re right. Caleb and Peaches needed each other. Once they connected, both of them just bloomed. It would have been a shame to put her to sleep.”

Aria’s chair squeaked as she leaned back. She made a mental note to get some oil for it the next time she went to the store. “Well, the Second Chance program is a newinitiative for convicts. It’s sponsored by the Department of Corrections.”

Lila laughed in the way that made all of her friends want to laugh too. “Convicts, huh? I didn’t know you knew any convicts, especially not convicts that would make you cry. You’ve been holding out on me.”

Excerpt:

“This is serious,” Aria insisted even though she did smile at Lila’s teasing. She tossed her tissue into the trashcan. “The Department of Corrections partners with community organizations to place model convicts in out- of-prison job settings. It’s supposed to let the convicts learn a skill they can use when they’re released.”

“That’s no reason to cry.” Lila blinked. “Uh, we aren’t getting one, are we? Not that I dislike convicts, but still... Come to think of it, I don’t know anyone who’s been in prison. Besides, I bet your dad wouldn’t like it at all if you started staffing the clinic with criminals.”

Prologue

Dr. Aria De Luca threw a newspaper onto her cluttered desk and reached for a tissue to dry her eyes. How could anyone let such a terrible thing happen?

Her lead vet tech Lila Monroe breezed into her office and held out a clipboard. “Sign this. They just delivered our order of dog food.”

Aria scribbled her name for Lila who vanished as abruptly as she had arrived. The cute assistant came back a couple of minutes later without a hint of her usual perky smile. “Why are you crying, Aria? Did the collie’s surgery not go well?”

Why is Aria so upset? Come back next Saturday to find out.

Last week we saw that after the wrestling match started, Cade hit Rocky with a chair, and Rocky didn't get up. We also saw that in the ambulance he asked if it was safe to sit up, and at that point Aimee slapped him. The driver just told Aimee there was no call to hit him because it wasn't his fault.

Excerpt: Aimee is speaking first to the driver.

“Watch the road! I’d like to know whose fault it is,” Aimee said with her best sneer, the one she’d copied from her cousin Ruby. “Who went where he wasn’t supposed to and found out that Brady Porter, one of the best known promoters in LAWA, was running a drug ring?”

Rocky shrugged as if it didn’t matter. “I only wanted some towels.”

“You got a lot more than towels, didn’t you?” Aimee took deep breaths to calm herself and blew out hard. What was wrong with everyone? Didn’t they know what a precarious situation Rocky had landed them in?

Blurb:

Aimee Sherwood never dreamed that following her fiancé into the witness protection pro-gram would land her in a haunted house in a town that’s downright creepy. She’d have laughed if she had been told the guy who lives down the road might be her soul mate, not the man whose ring she’s wearing. Life in West Virginia is nothing like life in Los Angeles, but between bean ball battles with Marilyn Monroe, remodeling a crumbling farmhouse, and starting a new online business, life in the country is anything but boring.

“Because I hate you.”

“We’re clear,” the ambul

Rocky sat up and rubbed his cheek.
“Chill, Aimee; we’re gonna be fine.”

“I don’t see how,” she retorted. “Lie back down.”

The driver, a federal marshal who’d said his name was Dave, glared at Aimee in the rearview mirror. “There’s no call to hit him, ma’am. None of this is his fault.”

In last week's excerpt we learned that Aimee works in Rocky's wrestling show and doesn't like her dress because it's so cheap looking. The match has begun, but Rocky is getting the worst of it.

Excerpt:
Before he could get to his feet, Cade slipped under the bottom rope and shoved one of the timekeepers from his chair. He grabbed the chair and took it into the ring with him. As the crowd roared and screamed, he smashed Rocky from behind with the chair.

Don’t panic, don’t panic, don’t panic.

Cade paraded around the ring, jeering at the audience and gloating over Rocky’s fall. Rocky should have gotten to his feet by now, but he hadn’t moved a muscle. Cade strutted across the ring and kicked his leg hard. Rocky didn’t move.

Aimee didn’t realize she had gotten to her feet and was moving until she bumped into the ring. “Rocky, get up,” she screamed, her voice reverberating around the now strangely silent arena.

In last week's excerpt we learned that Aimee works in Rocky's wrestling show and doesn't like her dress because it's so cheap looking. Today, the match begins.

Cade McCoy, whose hair was a greasy-looking, dirty blonde that reached his shoulders, threw off his hat and black leather vest and shouted something to Rocky, who ignored him. The barrage of noise intensified as Cade flexed his muscles at the screaming fans.

Aimee clapped her hands to her ears to protect them even though it would annoy Rich. She’d be deaf before this debacle finally ended.

Her part was finished for the moment. She glared at Cade, kissed Rocky, and took Rich’s arm as he escorted her from the ring, taking care not to catch her stiletto heels in the ropes. The heels had blue sequins on them too.

The next fifteen minutes were pure purgatory. She held her breath when Cade put Rocky in a headlock and punched his face. He released Rocky and gave him a kick in the butt that sent him sprawling; Rocky seemed dazed by the punches.

In last week's excerpt we learned that Rocky a WWE type wrestler learned to play the bagpipes for the crowd before the match began. Today they're on their way to the ring.

Excerpt: (A bit of creative punctuation here so I could get in what I needed to today.)

Rocky grabbed the pipes, and Aimee followed him down the long, gray hall that ran from the dressing room to the wrestling ring. She could hear Cade McCoy, Rocky’s opponent, taunting the audience. Boos, hisses, and jeers punctuated everything he said.

As they appeared in the doorway leading into the arena, speakers blasted Rocky’s theme song as the announcer roared, “Ladies and gentlemen, Rocky Stone is in the building!”

Spotlights blinded Aimee when they hit her; Rocky gave her a masterful kiss as dry ice sent fog roiling around them. With Rocky striding out in front, she and Thin Lips Rich followed, waving to the crowd and clapping the entire time. Rich spread the ropes apart for her and Rocky to enter the ring.

She strutted around, throwing kisses and motioning for the audience to stand up. The crowd went crazy when a wild swirl of bagpipe music filled the arena; They loved Rocky’s show. Clapping in unison, they cheered, “Rock-y. Rock-y. Rock-y.”

Rich glanced at his watch. “Get your bagpipes. It’s time.”

Oh, yeah. The bagpipes. She’d endured a million torments as Rocky learned to play them. Her head hurt just thinking about it. Rocky planned to play the bagpipes for the crowd before the match. She scowled as he stuck a tall, black hat on his head. Even though she hated to admit it, it was a good idea; LAWA was all about flamboyant personalities.

Last week we saw that Rocky is a wrestler who'd waiting to go into the ring. Aimee is fiancee, and Rich is his manager.

Rich’s lips thinned. Not that they weren’t thin enough already. The man was a lipless wonder. “This is the Los Angeles Wrestling Association, Aimee. LAWA teaches the guys how to do the moves without hurting themselves. You have no reason to worry.” He sighed. “We’ve talked about this before.”

Aimee didn’t deign to answer.

This is an interesting book to me because a lot of scenes in the book are based on something that happened either to me or my family. One woman told me it was unrealistic, but I figured she had a boring family. I promise you most of the events are based on true stories.

Excerpt: Last week we found Rocky getting ready to go into the wrestling ring. He was in his dressing room, and in today's excerpt he still is. The first speaker is Rocky's manager.

Chapter One

"Rocky, you look as nervous as a man at a baby shower.” He guffawed, showing nicotine-stained teeth to Aimee.

“Everything’s wrong,” she snapped. Why did this idiot always bray like a mule at what he considered his witty repartee? “It smells like dirty feet in here, and I hate the gray paint. The entire auditorium looks dingy. Besides that, this is the nastiest dressing room I’ve ever seen. I don’t like ‘no disqualification’ matches either.”

Rocky reproved her with a look. “She’s just worried about Cade hitting me with the chair.”

Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors

We know that Susan won her bet with Robin when Kurt asked her to go to a party with him. Unfortunately, Kurt and Susan had too much tequila and ended up spending the night with their host. This is the last excerpt from The Captain and the Cheerleader. We'll be moving on to something else next week. If you've liked the book, you can pick it up at http://amzn.to/1NDgnrg. Thanks for following along with me. You can find more excerpts at:

Excerpt:

When Kurt hugged her back, she kissed him. He was so handsome she couldn’t help it. Kurt didn’t seem to mind. Judging by the little moan he made, he liked her kisses.

She closed her eyes against a sudden onslaught of feeling as the hugging and kissing intensified. Kurt Deveraux was something else! She made no protest when he cupped her bottom and pulled her intimately against him. At the moment, the tequila was firmly in charge.
