Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors

Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors, your chance to sample the work of a talented group of authors. You can find the excerpts at:

Today's excerpt is from one of my newly finished manuscript called Flood. If something doesn't ring right give a yell. In this excerpt my heroine is being chased by two men, one an upstanding member of the community, and the other an ex-convict. She has agreed to go tubing down the river with the ex-convict.

Jason ignored Caleb. “If you’re determined to do this thing, Aria, maybe I should go with you.”
Should she laugh or get mad, and what on earth could she say to Jason? If she and Caleb were only friends, it wouldn’t matter if Jason came with them or not, but if, as she suspected, they were on the verge of becoming something more, she didn’t want him horning in.
Her eyes cut to Caleb whose face might have been carved of granite for all the expression he showed. All except for his eyes. They burned with dislike and resentment. If she let Jason come, Caleb wouldn’t forget it anytime soon.

I don't think so Frank. I might have signed up a long time ago, but I've never used it.

Nice job painting the scene. Love the word choice here: "...horning in..." :-)

I like this set-up very much, Elaine!

And I think I already know which man I'd pick . . . but then again . . . :D

I really like how you describe Caleb's reaction....or non-reaction. Very well done:)

I think "horning in" should be "honing in". Great snippet, Elaine. It certainly paints a specific picture.

You've painted a scary scene. An innocent women and two men so different. I say beware young lady.I'm hooked, Elaine.

I think she has an obvious choice. :)

Oups, that's some difficult situation. May I suggest a fist fight? They don't seem to like each other very much.

Bit of a conundrum she's facing. Way to wind up the tension.
