We know so far that Rocky ticked off drug dealers and had to fake his death so he can enter the witness protection program. At the pretend funeral, Cade McCoy told Aimee he'd never go into the ring again, and Gabe Porter who is suspected of being in the drug ring hugs Aimee and reveals that he knows where she lives. I'm skipping some paragraphs today to the time Aimee goes home to Baltimore, and Rocky calls her right after she was thinking how peaceful she felt. This is stressful because the Witness Protection Program told him not to call her for six months.
Excerpt: Some creative punctuation.
“Since you won’t ask about my news, I’ll tell you,” Rocky
said. “I’ve bought a house for us. Actually, it’s an estate; no, I
guess it’s more of a farm. You’re speaking with the proud owner of
two hundred fifty acres of prime West Virginia real estate. It’s just
across the Virginia–West Virginia state line, and you’ll never guess
what.”
“What?”
“They say Benedict Arnold slept in the house.”
Benedict Arnold? Why not George Washington? Oh, wait. I’m talking to Rocky.

Is it just me or she doesn't seem very impressed with the estate?
ReplyDeleteHaving Benedict Arnold sleep there, and not Washington, is a rather inauspicious selling point.
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't seem overly thrilled he's called with his bit of news.
ReplyDelete"I've bought us," doesn't usually follow the word "house". Interested to see where this goes.
ReplyDeleteHaha! That last line says volumes! Good snippet, Elaine. :-)
ReplyDeleteHmmm. He broke the rules to tell her that? I wonder if anyone is listening in on the call?
ReplyDeleteHis choice of heroes is quite telling!! Nice clip, Elaine. Rocky is definitely trouble courting more trouble!
ReplyDeleteTrouble ahead in her peaceful life without him.
ReplyDeleteI love the Benedict Arnold twist, great touch. Thoroughly enjoyed the snippet!
ReplyDeleteI love her thoughts about Arnold and Rocky!

ReplyDeleteI think that if I was her I might be tempted to tell him to move to his Virginia ranch...on his own! He doesn't seem to care that he's putting her in danger, as well as himself. Great snippet.
He seems quite proud, but she doesn't. Wonder why.
ReplyDeleteHaha, the most famous of traitors slept here! It'll be an old house in a beautiful place- she should check it out.
ReplyDeleteWonder about her subdued reaction - or lack of it.
ReplyDeleteHe only cares about himself. When will she see that?
ReplyDeleteHa, I love her reaction. Or lack of reaction! :D
ReplyDeleteHe is so clueless, isn't he? He's going to get himself killed for sure.
ReplyDeleteHistory is one thing, but infamous history? lol Great snippet, Elaine. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL! Love that last line!
