Beyond the Book: Princess Morgane

Today I'm interviewing the Princess Morgane, heroine of The Enchanted. I'm sure you will enjoy getting to know her.

1.  Tell us a little about yourself. How did you come to your author’s attention? Occupation?
“I am the Princess Morgane, daughter of King Maccus, wife of Prince Alan who is heir to his father King Bowdyn. The entire kingdom celebrated my marriage to Prince Alan, so I suppose that is how she heard of me. My occupation? I am a princess.”
A tall, blonde warrior enters the chamber where the interview is taking place. He hears the last thing Princess Morgane says. “Do not forget, my princess, that I have seen you washing dishes. Mayhap you would enjoy that occupation.”
The princess laughs, her eyes gleam. “My husband jests, though I did indeed wash the dishes when we fought the terrible evil in King Osric’s realm.”
“Fought and prevailed in large part to you, my dear.”
The princess nods to the interviewer. “As you can see, Madame, my husband is a practiced flirt!”

2.  What or who is the greatest love of your life? Why? What drew you to them?
Princess Morgane reaches for Prince Alan’s hand. “Our love story did not begin the way most do. Our fathers arranged a marriage for the two of us even though we had never met. I did not expect to even like him, but I grew to love him almost immediately. How could I not? He is everything a man should be. He is kind, generous, clever, protective, …”
“Nay, my love. These are qualities that should apply to you. If I possess any virtue at all, it comes out of my love for you.”
The princess blushes and turns back to the interviewer.

3.  What’s your greatest fear?
Princess Morgane bites her lip. “I fear that one day I might lose the prince. We live in a dangerous world.”
Prince Alan scowls at the interviewer. “Think no more upon it, my princess. I will take very good care of myself.”

4.  What’s your motto in life?
“Aut viam inveniam aut faciam - I will either find a way or make one.”
The prince beams at her. “Well said, my princess. After our experiences I do not believe in the word impossible.”

5.  How do the other characters in your book view you?
Princess Morgane considers the question. “With no false modesty, I can say that I have found favor with my husband and his family. To this day I possess the red banner given to me by King Bowdyn in appreciation of my service to the kingdom.” Her eyes twinkle. “Perhaps I do not look like a warrior, but I am held in high regard by the army.”
Prince Alan laughs. “Indeed. Madame Interviewer, you should hear the warrior Renweard speak of her bravery when she confronted the false princess. Even now he brags of how she killed an enemy to save me. In truth she saved me twice, once in Pygeria, and once when the false princess held sway over the castle.”

6. What do you prefer? To spread & hear gossip, or be the creator of gossip fodder?
“Well, if one must choose, I suppose I would rather be the creator of gossip fodder. It is much more entertaining that way.”

7.  What is it about you that is going to draw us readers in?
Prince Alan clears his throat. “I will answer that one for you. She has the heart of a dragon and beauty beyond compare, but she is warm, nurturing, and loving toward all whom she meets.”
“Thank you, my prince.”

8.  What was your happiest moment?
She laughs. “Oh, that is easy. My happiest moment was when Prince Alan broke the evil spell upon Pygeria, thereby giving us the chance for a future together.”

9.  What trait in others do you find most deplorable?
“I abhor greediness which leads to all manner of deceit and unkindness.”

10. The random question: If you were a color, what color would you be and why?

“Yellow. To me, yellow is a joyous, happy color full of hope and sunshine. I have suffered much in my life, but thanks to my adventures with the prince my days are now filled with sunshine.” She stands. “Come. Let me show you the lovely painting the prince did for me. It too is filled with the sunshine.”

Saturday Sample: Never Trust a Pretty Wolf

For the last few months I've been sharing excerpts from Turnaround Farm, but today I'm sharing from another book, Never Trust a Pretty Wolf. We'll begin with Chapter One.

Blurb:
Liesel Wolf has a secret, a dangerous secret she’ll go to any lengths to conceal. When she’s paired in a charity game with sexy marshal Andy Bryce, a man with secrets of his own, her carefully constructed world comes crashing down, and Liesel’s on a collision course with her past.

Excerpt:
Chapter One

Last week:
Andy Bryce kicked a pink stuffed rabbit out of his way and sat down on the sofa beside his brother, Tony, but he sat on a doll that immediately squawked, “Mama.”

Andy jumped as if the sound had come from a living child. “You hurt my baby,” his niece cried. She ran over to the fruit juice stained sofa and grabbed her toy. “You have to be careful, Uncle Andy.”

She stalked from the room carrying her baby doll cradled in her arms.

“You’ve turned pale,” Tony observed.

“That’s silly.” Andy frowned at his brother. “Why would sitting on a doll bother me?”

This week:
Tony passed a steaming cup of coffee to Andy. “You know why, and it’s a perfectly normal reaction. You aren’t Superman even though you try to be.”

“I have no idea what you mean.”

“Andy...”

Andy tried his best frown on Tony. “Look, I don’t want to
talk about it.”

“But...”

“If you won’t drop this topic of conversation I’m going home,” Andy warned.

Tony threw his hands up in surrender. “All right, you win. Here. Read the rules for Melton’s game. It’s for charity, you know.”

He thrust a glossy, colorful pamphlet at Andy, who scowled like a maniac. “I don’t want to participate in this thing, Tony, and you know it. If you think it’s so cool, do it  yourself.”

“Can’t.” He smirked at Andy. “Melinda’s folks are visiting us that week. If I don’t stay at home to help entertain them, Melinda will kill me.”

Last week

He sighed. I refuse to embarrass myself by losing my head and acting like a fool.
He pounded his pillow into shape and forced his tight muscles to relax. Gradually he fell into a light, fitful sleep.

***
Holly awoke with both a raging thirst and a desperate need for a bathroom. The clock on the bedside table said two-thirty as she eased out from under the covers. Oh, I hope Loretta won’t wake up. She’ll be as mad as a hornet if she does.

Like the bedroom, the hallway outside her room had a lot in common with the North Pole. Besides that it was pitch dark.

This Week: We're picking up where we left off last week.

She’d probably fall and break every bone in her body. How could the Wakefields stand this horrible, cold house?

She tiptoed down the stairs and opened the door that led to the kitchen. The room looked gloomy, but at least the banked fire somewhat kept the cold at bay and provided a dim light to see by. She got her water, used the bathroom, and with no more reason to delay, she dashed back up the steps toward her icy room.

If they sell the farm, maybe they’ll buy a warmer house with a night-light. I can’t see a wink. Was my room on the right or left side of the hall? Wait. It was the right.

“What do you think of this place?” Loretta asked as she extended her feet a little closer to the fire.

Holly looked around with a critical realtor’s eye. TheWakefields appeared to live in this one big room that you entered through the mudroom. The living area was centered around the fireplace on one of the short walls. An old, faded sofa done in a plaid fabric and two beat up leather recliners clustered around the fire while a small TV sat just to the right of the hearth. An old fashioned kitchen with a farmhouse sink lay behind the living area.

The one thing Holly liked about the kitchen was the big window over the sink. The green appliances looked as if they had been manufactured somewhere around 1970 while the finish on the cabinets had been worn away near the hardware. A scarred maple dining table with four chairs stood in the part of the kitchen closest to the sofa.

Since most women seem to want kids, that rules out marriage. I can’t afford to get married anyway. We can barely make it with two people in the house. We don’t need three.”

Jeb continued his work in silence, but his mind darted from one possibility to another. If Dan wouldn’t help himself, his grandfather would have to do it for him. He had had to stand by and watch Kyle ruin his life, but if he had anything to say about it, Dan would get a happy ending.

This week: We've picked up where we left off last week.

“Your grandmother wasn’t too happy about us staying the night with the Wakefields,” Loretta said as she finished washing the last of the dishes. She folded the dishcloth across the faucet to dry and sat near the fire with Holly.

Holly smiled at the mention of her grandmother.“You know Nana. She’s a worrywart. I think it’s the best thing that could have happened. Jeb’ll listen to my offer because he’s too polite to tell me to shut up.”

“Dan may tell you to shut up.”

Holly shot an exasperated stare Loretta’s way. “While we’re on that subject, why didn’t you tell me he’s so good looking? He may be rude, but he’s awfully cute.”
