Let’s add a blue vest from Forever 21 for $12.90.

I think we need a belt so how about this Linea Pelle Nordic inspired one from Nordstrom for $58.  Notice that the belt sits below the natural waist.

I like these Sketchers from Rack Room Shoes for $29.99.
Last of all we need a purse.  I like this AignerBuy it for $79.99.

If I ever learn how to use my photo editing softwear I’ll show you how it would look together.  Until then, you’ll just have to use your imagination.

While you're here take a look at yesterday's post.  I have a super nice contest going on.

After you do your post, review, etc, send me an email at admin@elainecantrell.com telling me where you helped spread the word.  Also, leave me your email.  I’ll use a random number generator to draw the winners.  If you like, you can leave your information in the comment section instead of sending the email.

The contest begins today and ends August 31.  Here’s the info you might need to help spread the word.

A New Dream
Publisher: Astraea Press
Author: Elaine Cantrell

I'm on cloud nine after reading my review in the August issue of Romantic Times.  They gave A New Dream 4 stars (that means a compelling page turner) and said:

Readers will love this touching and inspirational story in which a former football player learns to live his life under new terms after a tragic accident.  As he journeys toward a new dream he meets (Violet Emerson) and falls in love.
Thanks in advance for helping me spread the word.

Why I Love Wednesday

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Elaine Cantrell, and I write romance novels. I like to focus on that first breathless thrill when eyes meet across a crowded room. I try to give my readers the feeling that love really could happen to them. Oh, I'll torture the characters before the end of the book, but rest assured, I always have a happy ending.

I've been published seven times.  My latest release is A New Dream.  I'm proud of it because the reviews are wonderful. Romance Junkies said,

A NEW DREAM is a wonderful contemporary romance with heartwarming characters and heartfelt moments. Elaine Cantrell creates a beautiful, believable relationship with old fashioned values that adds sweetness to the story. All of her characters were likable with emotions and reactions that one can relate to. My favorite though had to be the hero Matt, who had to face a very difficult reality. His growth and the way Ms. Cantrell portrayed his struggles with coming to terms with the changes in his life was nicely done. This is one of the best inspirational romances I’ve read in a while.

It took ebooks a while to catch on, but they're widely read and accepted now.  If you haven't tried an book, here are five reasons why you should:

1. They cost less. You can buy two instead of one.

2. They don't take up space in your house. You don't have to dust them either.

3. You can impress your friends with you technical jargon and computer literacy.

4. You can discover a world of new and exciting authors.

5. On an ebook reader, a device about the size of a paperback, you can carry your library with you and read from it at any time.

Oh, go on and give it a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.  I have a Nook, and I love it.

Welcome David M. Brown

Welcome to the blog, David.  How long have you been writing? What inspired you to pick the pen up one day and create characters that capture the imagination?

I first started writing in 1999 while I was still at college. I’d done creative writing at school but didn’t show an interest in the craft as a hobby until I discovered the RPG series, Final Fantasy, on the Playstation. I fell in love with the games, stories and characters immediately and they led me to Norse mythology which I found more interesting than the Greek tales I was familiar with. Not long after I created the world of Elenchera and decided I wanted a rich history filled with colourful characters and exciting storylines.

I totally understand the lure.  How long did it take for your first book to get published?

I spent around two years writing Fezariu’s Epiphany, fitting it into the evenings after work or taking advantage of the full days the weekends provided. After six drafts the novel was ready and my wife and I decided to self-publish. She was integral to the book’s publication, designing a cover and formatting the book to printing standard. Since then she has also been instrumental in the continued publicity of the book which seems to be going from strength to strength.

So many authors choose this route now.  What does your writing day look like?

Weekdays are frustrating as I have to go out to work so in the evenings I’m forced to snatch an hour or two once chores and our six cats have been dealt with. Friday nights and weekends are better and it’s this point in the week where I’ll be at my most productive. It’s not just novel writing though. I’m continuing to work on the world history for Elenchera and have a regular blog, The World According to Dave, which features reviews and tales of our six chaotic cats.

We only have two cats, but they too are chaotic.  How do you handle family and your writing career? Is your family understanding of the time that you have to give your career? Is it sometimes difficult for you? How did they react to fact that you’re an author?

My wife, Donna, was a fan of my writing before we were even together so has been very supportive and if it wasn’t for her then Fezariu’s Epiphany would never have been published. I do wish there was more time in the day to do plenty of writing but then have quality time with Donna. We don’t have any children and our six cats are largely independent, the only times they seem to need us is when they’re hungry or want our laps to sleep on. I’ve kept my writing largely quiet from my family. They’ve known for years that I like to write but, Donna aside, I try to keep my projects to myself until they’re complete.

Do you feel each of your characters lives with you as you write? Do their lives sometimes take over a part of your life?

The characters in Fezariu’s Epiphany seemed to be with me daily until I finally completed the novel. Fezariu himself had been nagging at me for quite some time and when it came to selecting a plot for my debut novel there’s no way he would have allowed me to tell any other story. Throughout the planning and writing of the novel, the characters would be with me through images of their moments in the book, ones I could visualize as clearly as if I were watching the scenes on the big screen. When it came to the final edits I wanted to be certain I had conveyed those many images as best as I could. I feel very happy with the end result and Fezariu has since left me alone so I’m assuming he’s pretty chuffed as well. The only downside is the characters in my next novel, A World Apart, are now pestering me daily. The life of a writer is always fun!

Welcome Shannon Leigh

1.For the benefit of those who don’t know you, tell us a little bit about you and your work.

That's kind of a loaded question. *grins* I have so many hobbies that it's hard to really focus on one. I'm a mother of four awesome boys and the wife of a wonderful man (not exacly hobbies, but a major part of my life) aside from that, I'm an author of erotic romance. I have several books published with Amber Quill Press, as well as Audio Lark, and Wild Child Publishing. In my spare time (what's that?) I like to decorate cakes, read, draw, scapbook, and my most recent endeavor, gardening. I love the outdoors. The smell of burning wood is so comforting to me. I like to start a fire out back in the firepit, sit and watch the flames and sip on wine. My husband always jokes and says I smell like a log on those evenings. I'm also a nurse, and work as an Occupational Health Nurse for the federal government.

2.  Good grief!  You're a busy woman.  What did you hope to accomplish with your books?

I want to give readers something to enjoy. I want them to read my stories and feel like they've met characters they'll remember. I want to impart upon them a sense of excitement and romance, love and passion. I want to entertain and enlighten, and maybe, just maybe, push the boundaries a little, taking my readers to a realm they've never imagined.

3.What is the greatest test you ever faced as a writer?

Getting the first book published. I had big dreams of being famous and rich (yeah, I've come back to reality now). I focused so hard on getting a literary agent, that I spent months sending queries and waiting for any word back before finally deciding to skip the middle man and go right for the source. I also let go of the idea of having to be published by a traditional print house and refocused my energies on ebook publishing. When I did all that, I accomplished my goal much quicker. That's not to say you can't get published by a big name print house, or that it will take forever to secure a contract, it just wasn't the right avenue for me. So I guess the biggest challenge was accepting the reality check that a lot of new authors with stars in their eyes have to learn.

4.What’s the best advice you ever got about the publishing industry?

Be persistent and don't let one rejection stop you from submitting somewhere else. A rejection is not a personal attack on your skill as a writer, it just means your work doesn't fit there. Keep trying, it will fit perfectly somewhere else.

5.  That's great advice.  If you could meet two authors, which ones would you pick and why?

JK Rowlings--I love the Harry Potter series. Stephen King--the man has got to be a lunatic with all the crazy stories he's come up with. I'd bet he'd be a hoot to talk with.

6.Could you share your links with us?

7.We’d love to read an excerpt. Be sure to give us a buy link.

Title: Lycan Lore 2: Offspring
Publisher: Amber Quill Press—Amber Heat
Genre: Erotic/Dark Fantasy / Werewolf / Shapeshifter / Ménage (M/F/M) / Group Sex / Series
ISBN-13: 978-1-60272-360-3
BLURB:
Nine months ago, Heather’s life took a dramatic change. She became a werewolf. Shortly thereafter, a lycan hunter named Cray murdered her sire, leaving her to struggle through her horrible existence alone. But if turning into a bloodthirsty, ravenous, beast of the night wasn’t bad enough, she'd also conceived a child on the evening of her attack. With the next lunar cycle about to begin, the hunter hot on her heels, and her unborn child at stake, she's desperate to stay alive. Hoping the hordes of partying females will mask her scent, she flees to the crowded shores of South Beach, right into the arms of a local college student named Mike, a man who could prove more than a one-night stand.

Born a lycan, bred a hunter, Cray McCorbin has learned to control his inner beast, as well as accept the responsibility of eliminating other wolves who can't. He's not proud of his job—killing isn't something he enjoys—and prefers to consider himself a protector of humanity, despite his own heritage. Nine months ago, however, fate intervened in his miserable life and fulfilled the old Lycan Lore, presenting him with a mate. Cassandra, Heather's best friend, is all Cray's ever dreamed of and more. But destiny can sometimes come with a cruel hand. Though he'd gladly give his life for her, his duties as hunter comes first. He can't allow any renegade werewolf to escape, not even Cassandra's best friend...

EXCERPT:
...Heather stirred the skewered cherry around in her soda. Seemed the bartenders in South Beach thought it amusing to dress up their drinks, alcoholic or not. Since arriving some three days ago, she hadn’t gotten one beverage that didn’t sport an orange slice, pineapple wedge, or some other type of impaled fruit.

She’d debated taking the plastic sword and sticking it in the bartender’s eye when he’d set it before her, but decided against it. The last thing she wanted to do was make a scene. She’d come to Miami to blend in with the throngs of college kids currently on Spring Break; stabbing her server certainly wouldn’t promote blending in.

Heather eyeballed the attractive guy sitting on the barstool next to her. Her assessing gaze swept him from his wavy, sandy-blond hair to his moderately sized feet. He had a lean, athletic build and youthful skin; she guessed him to be in his mid-twenties.

He’d make a fine bed-partner.

And afterward, a tasty snack.

“So where are you going to school?”

He glanced at her, his sea green eyes sparkling with interest. His gaze dropped from her face to her breasts, lingering a long moment to ostensibly appreciate their ample size before sliding lower to focus on the large swell of her abdomen. His assessment faltered.

“You shouldn’t drink when you’re pregnant, you know,” he said matter-of-factly.

Heather bristled at the haughtiness of his tone. She clenched her jaw, struggling to control her temper. Restraining her inner beast became more difficult with each passing night of the lunar cycle.

For three moons of the month—the full and the two preceding—she became a force to be reckoned with. Last night was the first. Tonight would make two. And tomorrow would be worse.

“It’s virgin,” she ground out through a fake smile. “I don’t drink.”

She lied, of course. She drank all the time, even more so since the manifestation of her current state. Nothing else dulled her pain.
Not that she didn’t care about the child in her womb. She did. She just doubted alcohol would cause it much harm. No, silver bullets were her baby’s only enemy. Well, silver bullets and Cray McCorbin.

Though he shared her ailment—if one considered lycanthropy to be some sort of disease—he still saw fit to hunt and kill his own kind. The man had proved relentless. After he’d disposed of Graham, her baby’s father, he’d targeted her.

Regardless of how many obstacles she put in his way, he refused to stop hunting her. Oh, she’d managed to slow him down, throw a few detours in his trail. But once he’d eliminated her progenies, he steadfastly resumed his search for her.

It’d been nearly nine months since she’d started running from Cray, nine long months. But despite how tired she’d grown of late, she needed a little more time. Her baby would come soon, perhaps at the conclusion of the current lunar cycle. She just hoped her surroundings masked her scent until then.

Although her hormones were working on overtime, Cray would have a hard time pinpointing her location. Right now, hundreds of horny college girls flocked South Beach’s Lummus Park and all its surrounding attractions. The very air teemed with the smell of sex, a veritable cesspool of pheromones.

She’d purposely booked lodging at the Clevelander Hotel, one of South Beach’s hot spots. In addition to being located right in the middle of the infamous Ocean Drive, it served as home to the Clevelander bar, a place synonymous with irreverent partying. She’d not only blend in with the carousing crowd around her, she’d be certain to sample some of its delicacies as well, in more ways than one...

Thanks so much for coming today, Shannon, and good luck with your book.  It sounds really good.

Six Sentence Sunday

Today's SSS comes from Return Engagement which is available from Whiskey Creek Press.
This excerpt takes place when my hero Richard and my heroine Elizabeth accidentally meet each other on the beach ten years after Richard’s father broke them up.  Richard works for the FBI now, and Elizabeth is a top actress in Hollywood.
Her heart took off in a wild gallop. He had matured since she last saw him. His shoulders had broadened, and the well-defined muscles in his chest rippled under his tee shirt. His stomach appeared flat and hard, and his legs looked shapely and well formed. The expression on his face spoke of a fiery, passionate nature. Her face flushed as it occurred to her that if she faced him across a bed today as she had done ten years ago, the outcome might be very different. He didn’t look like a man she’d want to turn down.

In this excerpt, Richard and Elizabeth have unexpected company on the morning after they spend their first night together.

Richard’s smile lit up his face as if she’d given him a coveted gift. “Let me snuggle you, honey,” he wheedled. “I need a good morning kiss in the worst way.”

Elizabeth laughed merrily. “No you don’t. If I let you get me into that bed, I know what will happen.”

“So, what’s the complication?”

“I’m too hungry to wait on breakfast. You wouldn’t want me fainting on you, would you? I have been known to do that if I get too hungry.”

“Not because you’re hungry I wouldn’t,” he replied, leering wickedly at her. “After I take a shower, we’ll finish our discussion over breakfast. We’ve got a lot of plans to make.”

“That’s true. Towels and stuff are in the bathroom closet.”

She blew him a kiss which promised more later on and went to prepare breakfast. She started the coffee maker first and was rummaging around in the refrigerator for some eggs when she heard her doorbell ring.  “What an awful time for interruptions,” she said and sighed. She tightened the sash of her robe and padded through the living room to see who would bother them so early in the morning.

On the way to the door she picked up Richard’s shirt, which had somehow ended up in the hallway, and tossed it on the back of the sofa. He’d want to put it on after he had his
shower, so she hoped it didn’t have sand in it.

Her jaw dropped the moment she flung open the door.  There, in the flesh, stood her mother and, ohmigosh, Alex Crawford! Oh no! Oh no! What were they doing here? What did they want?  “Mother, Alex! What are you doing here at this time of the morning? Why didn’t you call first?” she demanded.

Mrs. Lane, a larger, older version of her daughter, rolled her eyes at Elizabeth. “Since when does your mother and your fiancé need an invitation to visit you? You and Alex were supposed to have dinner with me last night, remember? I was worried about you. Why didn’t you call and tell us you couldn’t make it? Did your shoot last longer than you thought?”

Alex stepped around Mrs. Lane and entered the house. Elizabeth tensed when he caressed her shoulder through the thin fabric of her robe and placed a light kiss on her lips.  Thank God Richard didn’t see that. He’s jealous enough as it is. I don’t want to think what he might say or do if he saw Alex touch me.  She shivered. It wouldn’t be pretty, she knew that.

“Don’t scold her,” Alex sweetly admonished Mrs. Lane.  “She looks tired this morning. Did you have a bad day yesterday, sweetheart?” Elizabeth steeled herself not to jerk away from him when he fondled the sash on her robe. If Richard came in…  “Oh, I had a very tiring day,” she agreed. Well, I told the truth this time. All of yesterday’s emotional upheaval was exhausting to say the least.

Mrs. Lane sniffed. “Do I smell coffee?”

Elizabeth’s thoughts raced. Kind and generous to a fault, Alex deserved to hear her news in private. She had to make him and her mother leave until she got Richard out of here.  He probably wouldn’t want to go so…

She had waited too long. The bedroom door opened with a click that sounded abnormally loud in her ears. “Elizabeth?  Do you know where my shirt is? I can’t find it.”
