My favorite fictional couple has to be Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara. Folks have you read Mitchell's description of the man? He's everything I love! He has broad schoulders, dark hair, and swarthy, bronzed skin. Be still my heart! And get this, he's a bad boy. What is it about bad boys that takes a girl's breath away? Most importantly, though, he loves Scarlett to distraction.
In some ways I don't think Scarlett deserves her reputation as a bad girl. Come on. Would you rather she have let a deserter burn Tara to the ground? Would you rather she have let Jonas Wilkerson take Tara away? Still, I must admit she did some awful things. Taking your sister's fiance is kinda bad, and so is selling cheap lumber for good. (I have a book coming out soon titled One Woman Man, and in that book my heroine loses her fiance to her sister.)
My heroines don't have to be perfect though. I like to read and write about flawed characters which is why I like Scarlett and Rhett. After all, perfection is boring.
Oh I agree! Taking her sister's fiance was very bad and selfish. But...she's so driven. So she doesn't have any boundaries. It happens. I love love love this book couple. Because of how strong of a woman she was, she did some great things along with the bad. Rhett...oh I've talked about Rhett enough but *sigh* he's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice!
I agree...but I had to change my answer up because it is my all time favorite book and they just....well they just are the best!
ReplyDeleteGreat pick!!! Fabulous couple.
ReplyDeleteYu and Alexis rave about this book so much I'm going to have to read it and soon! There is a used booksale going on this weekend. I'm hoping to find a copy of Gone With The Wind while I'm there so I can see exactly what Rhett and Scarlett are all about.
ReplyDeleteJade, you'll love it!
