betWeen

Welcome to Daniel Frost's blog tour.  Daniel is the author of Between, a YA fantasy.  I have two guests at the blog today, so after you spend a little time on this post, please scroll down to my next guest.  Daniel, welcome to my blog.  Could you tell us a little bit about you and your writing?

Actually by trade I'm an aerospace engineer and got into writing when my company started sending me all over the world... funny thing that those airplanes can't seem to break anywhere near home. But all those trips left me with some free time and a laptop. So I made the best of it and started writing to keep myself busy and stop spending money.

2.Sounds like a good use of time to me.  How long did you write before you got published?

I hardly knew what I was doing in the beginning, but knew enough that the larger publishing houses required an agent and I didn't want to go that route just yet. I decided to try out some of the smaller publishing houses and got real lucky by picking a small independent publisher that was just getting into the business and looking for manuscripts in my genre. Not a whole lot more than right place, right time.

3.What is your favorite genre? Why?

I like just about anything that can displace reality and take you away from the daily grind. Doesn't matter if it's fantasy, sci-fi, a thriller or a good mystery. As long as it sucks you in and makes some of those all consuming problems disappear, for at least a little while, they're all good.

4.I totally agree!  What are you working on now?

I'm not currently writing anything at the moment. I'm trying my hand in digital art and freelancing some book covers. I've got a few good ideas knocking around for a second book in the betWeen world, but nothing has yet taken hold.

5.I'd like to know about digital art myself.  What advice would you give aspiring writers?

That's easy. Don't write if you expect to quit the day job. Write because you want to... just enjoy it. Take yourself away to the world you've created and enjoy that place. If it ever feels like work than put it aside and try something else for a while. Keep it fun.

6.Super advice.  I haven't quit my day job either.  Would you share your links with us?

Blurb:
Young Chance N. Counter thought her life was nothing more than a series of meaningless, random events. But when she finds some crinkly, yellowed pages from an old book, with the same drawing of a shadowy door in each one, this all suddenly changes. Pages in hand, and armed with only a flashlight, Chance finds the shadowy portal and steps into the place between night and day... it is the place where nightmares and fairytales and creatures that go bump in the night were created. It is the place of lore and legend and dreams, and the place where the Shadow King reigns supreme.
But to leave, Chance, along with a new ally (who happens to be a talking fox) must summon all of her courage and use all of her wit to travel through this bizarre world and find her way home.
