Beyond the Book: Lifesavers

Hi, there.  Welcome to Elaine's blog.  Elaine told my story in her novel Her Kind of Man.  My name is Kara Cochrane, and I'm here today because Elaine asked me to tell you about my parents' autumn tradition.

You see, my parents had three lively girls to raise, and sometimes they needed a break.  Each year as soon as the fall colors arrived, my mom and dad would take a picnic to Lake Robinson.  It was just the two of them.  They wanted to relax, not fish little girls out of the water or argue about hiking up the nature trail.

Ross and I only have one child, but we liked my mom and dad's idea so much that we've started escaping by ourselves just the way they do.  Here are a few of the pictures we made last fall.  If you and your sweetie are bogged down in the day to day stuff that we all have to do, set aside a day for the two of you to relax, reconnect, and steal a few kisses.  You'll feel better for it.  I promise.  Remember, I'm speaking from experience.

The minute we stepped out of the car, the ducks and geese rushed us.  They're obviously used to tourists because they swarmed all around us.  One of them stepped on my shoe.

Lovely, isn't it?  We took the picture from our canoe.

This picture was taken from our picnic table.  We roasted hot dogs over the fire and had a nice dinner before we drove home.
