Welcome to Snippet Sunday and Weekend Writing Warriors, your chance to sample the work of a talented group of authors. When you've finished here, you can find more excerpts at:
We know that Susan won her bet with Robin when Kurt invited her to go to a party with him. Last week he told her he didn't drink because he wanted to set a good example for the kids. We'll pick up there.
Susan nodded as if his answer pleased her. “I
don’t think that’s corny at all, and I don’t drink
either. Coffee’s about the strongest thing I’m
interested in.”
“If you’re ready, we’ll get going.”
She smiled at him, and after he helped her with her jacket, she locked the front door.
Jason was right. I’ve always wanted to go out with her. For a long time I’ve hoped she’d break up with that guy she was dating. This is my chance, and I don’t plan to mess it up.
Blurb:
Susan English can’t stand Robin Lanford! She’s so full of herself she irritates everyone on the faculty of Fairfield High. When Robin bets Susan fifty dollars that she can’t get a date with Kurt Deveraux, the head football coach, Susan jumps at the chance to put the little heifer in her place. She had no idea that teaching Robin a lesson would irrevocably change her life, strain treasured friendships, and throw two families into chaos.

It all started out so right... :-) I'll stop. No spoilers. :-)
ReplyDeleteTheir date proceeds apace. She's won her bet now, I gather. At what point will she be developing a new goal, preferably concerning him?
ReplyDeleteOh, give it a couple of hours, Ed.
ReplyDeleteI love that his friend knew what he wanted before he did.
ReplyDeleteIn this instance I suspect that a successful first date is a setup for a nasty let-down when the bet gets exposed. Can't wait for it to unravel ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think he wants to go out with her so bad that he is holding something about himself back... I wonder how she will react if and when he finally comes clean.
ReplyDeleteI hope all goes well. They seem perfect for each other. I hope he wont' find out about her bet.
ReplyDeleteWell, he knows what he wants. But does she?
ReplyDeleteEverything is going so smoothly that I can't help wondering what is about to go wrong! Great snippet as always.

The evening is beginning well. Clearly they're on the same general wavelength about life. But that stupid bet is still looming, right? Can't wait for more, the building tension is getting to me! Well done.
ReplyDeleteThis could either go really well or really badly. Great snippet, Elaine.
ReplyDeleteHe's finally got his desire straight. Good boy! I just hope nobody with bad intention will be at this party.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping it works out, but some of the comments leave me wondering... ;) Great snippet, regardless!
ReplyDeleteHmm... maybe it's too perfect. What is going to go wrong? lol
ReplyDeleteBets never end well...this just has to go badly sooner or later
ReplyDeleteOh dear, please don't tell me this is where someone reveals the bet. I hate it when that happens. Especially when everyone's looking like they might be happy.
ReplyDeleteI'm with the other commenters- this is going a little too smoothly!
ReplyDeleteGreat snippet, I'm full of anxiety wondering how this is going to end...
ReplyDeleteOh, I see this is working out perfectly. But I get a bad sense that all good things come to an end and something is going to go wrong.
