Saturday Sample and Weekend Writing warriors.

Today I'm still sharing excerpts from Rest Thy Head. When you finish here you can go to www.wewriwa.blogspot.com to find more excerpts from a talented group of authors. First a blurb, and then an excerpt.

Blurb:

Running away from a fiancĂ© who betrayed her, Peyton O’Malley finds employment at a beautiful mountain inn called Rest Thy Head. She didn’t expect to live in the haunted room or to fall for the inn’s owner, a fire-scarred, war veteran who uses the inn to hide away from the world. She didn’t expect her sister to show up at Rest Thy Head either, much less her formidable mother.

Now, thanks to the aid of a friendly ghost, Peyton has a shot at true love, and so does her sister Ashley, provided the guys cooperate of course!

Except: In this excerpt Jake and Peyton have taken a group on an overnight camping trip. Jake is thinking about Peyton.

Jake checked on the fire and made sure everything in camp was secure, and then he went into the tent he shared with the two guys who had readied the camp for their arrival.

Why did she have to touch him all the time? She was constantly holding his hand, and just now around the fire she was molded to his side. Did she think it didn’t bother him? Did she think being scarred meant he didn’t have any interest in women? He wished with all of his heart she hadn’t come with him, but he couldn’t think of any reason to tell her no when she asked.

He prayed that before long she’d decide to go back home and get a job. If she stayed at Rest Thy Head with Patrick, he didn’t know if he could live there or not. Could he stand to see her kiss and touch Patrick all the time?

No, he couldn’t, and where on earth could he go? Something had to be done about this situation, but for the life of him he didn’t know what.

  2. Ah, if only he understood her signals, he wouldn't have so much pain in his heart.

  3. Ummm, dude, you're missing the obvious signals here! Enjoyed the snippet, feel sorry for him.

  4. It sounds like he's not quite ready to see the truth about how she feels.

  5. Right - he doesn't understand why she likes to touch him.

  6. Subtle touches may mean she's interested in him. I'm curious to know how this all plays out. Great snippet of his inner turmoil.

  7. If she's touching him all the time, why does he think she's interested in Patrick? He really doesn't see himself as boyfriend material, does he? Great snippet!

  8. Sounds like he already has feelings for Peyton.

  9. Poor guy. Seems like he needs to work on his self-image, so that it's more in line with what she obviously sees in him. Easier said than done though.
