Blurb:
Jenna West has no idea what she might have done to her new tenant Mike Hightower. He's surly and hateful every single time they meet, and he looks at her as though he despises her.
He does despise her. She's from the Middle East, and people like her killed his friend Ramirez when the army sent them to Iraq.
Will the power of love work its magic to soften Mike's bitter hatred, or will he ignore his growing attraction for his pretty landlady?

Last Week:
“Hi, I’m Mike Hightower. I have an appointment with Mr. Jacobs.”
The receptionist gave Mike a sweet smile. “He’s expecting you, Mr. Hightower. I’ll tell him you’re here. Will you sign in for me, please?” she asked as she handed him a clipboard.
As she stood, Mike noted with amusement that she deliberately displayed her cute little figure and long, slim legs. She had dark hair and a smooth, fresh complexion. As rich as a decadent piece of chocolaty fudge, her eyes locked with his and invited him to notice her.

This week: Mike talks to his new boss.
Stan Jacobs came bouncing out of his office to greet
Mike. He exuberantly threw his arms around his old army
buddy. “Man, you’re a sight for sore eyes. How have you
been?”
“Better since I got my discharge.”
“Better since I got my discharge.”
“Yeah, I know what you mean. I don’t miss the army
at all even though I do miss my buddies.”
“I feel exactly the same way.”
“Come on in and let’s have some coffee.”

Things are going well so far, but now I’m waiting for the hammer to fall. :-)
ReplyDeleteThings are starting off well, but as Christina said above, I have a feeling the meeting will go downhill? Enjoyed the excerpt.
ReplyDeleteNice snippet, you're building the story nice and steady.
ReplyDeleteGlad they're on the same page!
ReplyDeleteThey sound like good buddies.
ReplyDeleteWe love it (in real life) when a meeting begins as well as this has. Now for the catch ... for there surely is one!
ReplyDeleteSounds like he'd already noticed her. Great scene.
ReplyDeleteWhat great buddies! I wonder what's the catch. Maybe I'm too suspicious. A good snippet like this will make me turn the page.
ReplyDeleteA good meeting. The military does form incredible bonds...
ReplyDeleteNice reunion.
ReplyDeleteSo far it seems like this will be a solid relationship.
ReplyDeleteEverybody needs a good friend or two. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat snipet, and it sounds like these two are good friends - or or they? Like others I had a tiny twinge of 'is this as good as it seems'!
