ReplyDeleteA very interesting story that kept me entertained from the beginning to the end. Opening with a trail of Nicholas La Cour then being found guilty which he was not expecting he found himself in federal prison. The first thing on his mind was Maelle who he left at the altar because of his troubles. When she starts to visit him at the prison, he knows he is truly in love with her. He can’t wait to get out.
His other thoughts which take up most of his daily thinking are of the man that framed him for the crime he is now in prison for. Other men in prison who had known Nicholas's father have given him guidance while in about first the way to act in prison and second to not worry about vengeance, to let the law or what will happen to him naturally not out of hatred.
That is the telling theme for when Nicholas is released from prison because of new evidence. Now with Maelle and her love, he should have enough, but now he wants revenge still, and others are working at showing him a different way.
Maelle and Nicholas's brother has a secret. There are also spirits and other things going on that remind you or give you the impression of New Orleans. All of this adds to the story and will keep you going from one character to the next, from Mabelle’s aunt to the different spirits that show up and when you find out about Angel. There is enough of everything for everyone in this story to keep you going from page to page. I really liked the family and the passion between Nicholas and Maelle. A very good book.
