Liesel stepped around him and exclaimed, “Oh, how pretty!”
A sweet little waterfall cascaded across a series of big boulders and fell into a pool that looked deep enough to swim in. Arched tree branches sheltered the edges of the pool. The sound of the splashing water made Liesel feel cooler. She drew a deep breath, filling her lungs with the scent of fresh creek water.
The forested glade made her feel like she and Andy were the only two people in the world, an illusion that the arrival of a family of five dispelled. The kids plunged into the little pool, kicking and diving into the waterfall.
If not for Andy, she’d gladly take off her shoes and wade in that lovely, cool water. The southern summer had almost roasted her in her jeans. She bent over and trailed her hand into the pool.
That does sound like a beautiful spot to discover.
ReplyDeleteThose kinds of moments are magical ... until the noisy family arrives :) And when he suddenly stopped of course we were expecting something bad ahead, not this! Well done.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a beautiful spot indeed! Enjoyed the excerpt...
ReplyDeleteNice descriptions. Now I want to stick my toes in, too!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't I ever stumble across such an idyllic setting! I wonder if she's going to let down her guard and go wading, Andy or no Andy. Great description of the spot!
ReplyDeleteI can visualize that lovely place.
ReplyDeleteWonderful description. Reminds me of a place back home.
ReplyDeleteLiesel has been so uptight that it's refreshing to see the more relaxed side of her.
ReplyDeleteWonderful scene-building. I can picture the location!
