They got out of the car and started up the trail. In spite of her hurry, Liesel had to pause when they crossed a crystal-clear, boulder-strewn creek. Children and adults climbed on the rocks, laughing and throwing pebbles in the water. One woman had a grip on her little boy’s shorts. It reminded her of last year, before... Crap. Forget about that.
