So far in my excerpts from Return Engagement my hero and heroine met on a beach ten years after his father broke them up. They find that all of their old feelings are still there even though she's engaged to another man. They've gone to a carnival together, and now they're walking back down the beach to their cars. He just gave her his jacket to wear and said he liked the idea of her wearing his clothes, like in high school. They sat down on the sand to watch the moon, and both of them spoke at once. Elizabeth told him to speak first, and he told her she didn't really love her fiancé or she wouldn't have been flirting with and kissing him. Elizabeth is speaking.
"I’m so
confused I don’t know if I’m coming or going,” she cried. “I
do love Alex. I do! That’s why I agreed to marry him, but
with you I feel like a different person.
“I know I shouldn’t have flirted with you and kissed you, but I couldn’t help myself.” Her eyes misted with tears. “I didn’t want to help myself. It’s like it was ten years ago only better because now nobody can accuse me of corrupting a minor. You asked me what I’m going to do, but to tell you the truth, I don’t know. The only thing I’m sure of is that I don’t think I can stand it if you walk away again.”

The 'finding love just before marriage' meme seems to be strong these days.
ReplyDeleteVery emotional scene, Elaine. You've conveyed that well. :-) Good 8. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my ... I feel for her. I agree with Teresa, you've conveyed the emotions very well.
ReplyDeleteShe has a serious problem ten years too late. What happens now?
ReplyDeleteThese two, honestly! I hope they figure it out....your smooth writing has really gotten me to care, even as they exasperate me LOL.
ReplyDeleteWhat an emotional scene. I feel for her.
ReplyDeleteNice! She'd got herself quite a quandary, to be sure. I have the feeling the wicket will get stickier before she figures it out.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she's trying to recapture some lost youth...
ReplyDeleteAhh! Finally! She's finally starting to admit that she doesn't want to lose him! Oh, but now she's in a conundrum with Alex... This could get tricky. I really want to see these two be happy together though.
ReplyDeleteI guess the last part answers all the questions in the world.
ReplyDeleteThis is getting good. I really like this story!
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of different kinds of love--she has to decide which is the one that lasts.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's all out there now, isn't it? You captured the big moment well. Now... what next?
